Guest guest
The year of first Nisan given by Fagan is 786 B.C. (Bert, do I have that right?) At that time no specific degrees were used in the zodiac--the 30 degree 12 sign zodiac apparently was not yet defined. Degree measurement came much later, at least based on the ancient text translations we have so far. The precise exaltation degrees may be Greek...? ____________ Therese: Yes you do have it correctly. It was the Lunar Year 786 BC(Astnom. -785). Fagan was trying to derive where the exaltations came from. It is true the babs did not use degrees, but rather distance from marking stars in cubits. However, the later lists were quite clear as to the degrees. And the Helical positions for -785 were very close to the listed values. This still begs the question of why just that year and just that place should provide the positions of the exaltations. I have wondered about that sense I became a Siderealist 30 year ago. I am trying to find my copy of Zodiacs Old and New to re-read that discussion. Bert

Unfortunately, Zodiacs Old and New is a book I've never seen. Therese P.S. Recounts in New Hampshire and Ohio are now a sure thing and will happen. It is not my area of expertise. I will ask Ken Bowser and get back to you on that. If you can get hold of a copy of ZOAN by Fagan, you should do so and read it very carefully. I'm glad to hear that the recount is going forward. I do harbor a dark suspicion that it is too late to fix the wrong and that we will have to suffer another 4 years. I hope that is not so. :-( Sidereally, Bert > > > > > >

But at least we have some new translations by astrologers and university people to rely on. T.
