Hi Kate, I think your post slipped by me since I have so much mail coming into my e-mail box each day. If I've already replied to your post, please forgive me and chalk it up to aging memory cells. First, welcome to the Sidereal list! We've had a few new members join lately, which makes the list a lot more interesting. Please would >someone clarify? Thanks. As far as I know, " Lord of the House " simply refers to the ruling planet of the sign on the cusp of a house. So if Aries is on the first house cusp (the ascendant), Mars is the lord of the house. If Taurus is on the second house cusp, then Venus is the lord of 2nd. >>Also there are many systems of calculating houses, probably according to >purpose of horoscope? Yes, but for starters, choose one of these two methods: (1) Sign-as-house: Each sign has to do with one house. This works fine if the ascendant degree is between 10 and 20 degrees of a sign. (2) Indian Equal House: The degree on the ascendant is the center of a 30 degree house. This degree is on all the cusps in their own signs, and each house is exactly 30 degrees in size, 15 degrees on either side of the cusp. The time for the study of house calculations is after some of the basics are learned. >Since I am using the sidereal ephemeris would appreciate any >suggestions/pointers as to which would give the most accurate results. Planets that contact the angles by major aspect are important. Say if Venus aspects the ascendant, you will probably emphasize Venus activities in your life: Maybe relationships or art or music or love of nature. Also aspects to the Moon describe the mind and personality. >Lastly, please is there an online free sidereal ephemeris for NY-EST? I believe there is. Also there are sites that will do free horoscopes for you. I don't have these at hand, but try typing in 'free horoscope' or 'sidereal ephemeris' in a search engine and see what comes up. Does anyone have the URLs of these sites? Kate, if you're only interested in one or two charts right now, I can calculate them tomorrow. Also, for sidereal sign basics, please check the site below: (This is my take on the signs--there are other views, but you have to start somewhere...) http://users.snowcrest.net/sunrise/LostZodiac.htm Welcome again, Kate. I meant that you can just consider each sign as a house if the ascendant falls in the vacinity of the middle of a sign. Whatever sign the ascendant is in is the first house, then the next sign is the second house, and so on. This is a house system that is commonly used in India and also some western astrologers are experimenting with it because it was used in Hellenistic times. Is there a name for this? Only sign-as-house. You might choose 'Equal House' in astrodienst and then view the cusps as the centers of house influence rather than the beginnings of the houses. I do this often with my western astrology program. >3) My question about choice of houses was also because I am using the >sidereal ephemeris and maybe that will be more/less compatible with a >particular style of house calculation No, it makes no difference. But western sidesrealists like the Campanus house system. I don't use Campanus. >4) In some books it says to use 7th house for men if querying >relationship houses, but does not say which for women? I haven't found the time even to work with them myself. >I greatly appreciate your help and look forward to sharing more, Happy to help!
