Guest guest
Hello, Breck. In a message dated 99-12-05 14:06:24 EST, you write: > I have considered Sidereal Astrology in the past. That is I investigated > it somewhat. The Tropical " apologists " convinced me that Sidereal was not > credible, for reasons I won't go into here. The discrepancy between the two zodiacs was one of my biggest problems with astrology. Only after meeting a Sidereal astrologer was I won over. > I am however interested in > learning more from those who DO believe Sidereal the best. And, I was > surprised that Vedic Astrology does use the Sidereal approach. 1) Since it corrects for precession, the Sidereal zodiac is best to use for transits, returns (a special case of transit), house ingresses, and synastry. Since solar and lunar returns are the best predictive tools, they must be precession-corrected to be accurate. (And isn't accurate prediction why people get interested in astrology in the first place? Check the archives for my post about JFK Jr's final solar & lunar returns & last ennead.) 2) If you take the Tropicalist logic to it's inevitable conclusion (ie, if you're born on the first day of autumn, you're a Libra), then, since the seasons are opposite on each side of the equator, two people with the same birthday but born on opposite sides of the equator will have opposite sun signs. Most northern hemispere Tropicalists don't like to admit this, but a few from " down under " will. Additionally, you might want to find the special Vedic Astrology issue of _The Mountain Astrologer_ from a few years ago. The author of an article called " Don't Take Away My Sun Sign " observed that many Aries he knows " would give you the shirt off their backs, " wondered why Tauruses like Hitler and Saddam were more Martian than Venusian, and so on. > My birth data: July 3, 1948 at Tyler, Texas. Approximately 2:30 a.m. C.S.T. Thanks for the info so we could do your chart, too. This made seeing what you wrote about a lot easier. > This gives in the Tropical System ca. 28-29 Taurus rising with Moon 25 > Taurus. Sun Cancer of course. Stellium in 28-29 Gemini involv. How many degrees of > zodiac. longitude? . . . I occasionally post the Sidereal longitudes here; I'll forward the most recent one (last night, for midnight Sunday EST) to you privately. As of 12N EST, the northern hemisphere's Vernal Equinox point was at 05Pis16. The Tropical-Sidereal discrepancy, or _ayanamsa_, is 24*44'. > Any suggestions for books on the subject would be appreicated. In addition to all the books available on Vedic astrology, you can also check out AFA or ACS for books like Eshelman & Stanton's _The New Instant Astrologer_ or Fagan & Firebrace's _The Sidereal Primer_. Hope that helps, Kevin/Baraka
