Each nakshtra has four quarters. A 13d20 movement of the moon completes one nakshtra} Invariably most of us are known with a name different from our rasi name. And this confusion is genuine. I am qouting the authority of scripters on when to use the two names: Vivahe sarva mangalye yatradau grah gochare Janma rasheh pradhanatvam naamrashim na chintyet For auspicious occasions like marriage etc, journey muhurth, for results of planet transit it is the chandra rasi [ the sign in which the moon is posited ] which should be considered. Deshe grame grihe yuddhe sewayam vyavharke Naam rarasheh pradhanatvam janma rashim na chintyet For selecting a country or town for residence, for seeking job, for other every day activities like buying or selling, for litigations, election nominations etc, it is the Rasi of the popular name, which should be considered.
