>>1) Why couldn't Picasso have been a Libra? He was an artist, and Venus,

the

>planet of the arts, rules Libra.

+He couldn't have been a Libra because he was such a Scorpio! He was

(in)famous for his intensity, sexual nature, the sexual orientation of much

of his art, occupation with Death, domineering character, appearance, and

great wealth (Pluto=riches). But yes, I had thought of the Libran angle

with re: to the Arts. It is just that Picasso has been so publically

portrayed as the quintessential Scorpio (he surely thought of himself as

one and played it to the hilt!), or what we have been thinking was Scorpio!

Maybe what we think is Scorpio is Libra. Then Sagittarius traits would

actually be Scorpionic, and so on. Hell, change everything :-)

You asked if I had ever done returns, either lunar or solar. Answer: yes I

have done solar returns for myself; used to do them every year on my

birthday. Never got beans out of them. So maybe...

With the 11:15 p.m. birth time for Picasso, which is also used by the

Circle Book of Charts, one comes up with a Tropical ascendent of Leo 5d42m,

which converted to Sidereal would render a Cancer rising. Sun in Scorpio

at 2d42m would be moved to Libra but still be in the Fourth House near the

Nadir. The Moon (ahem) would be moved back into Scorpio :-) in the Fifth

(which isn't too shabby), and is conjunct the Dragon's Head. The Taurus

stellium (Tropical) involving Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter and Pluto (!) in the

Tenth House, would be split Sidereally, with Saturn and Neptune in Aries

but with Jupiter and Pluto remaining in Taurus. Still it IS a close

conjunction betw. Jupiter and Pluto and that certainly lends a Scorpionic

curve to things. Interestingly IMHO the Second and Eighth Houses, as

indicators of wealth, are relatively unemphasized with only quixotic Uranus

tenanting the Second. Yet Picasso was one of the wealthiest men of his

time in Europe and certainly the wealthiest Artist ever.

It is occurring to me that what Sidereal Astrology does (and by association

Jyotish) is ask us to look at our preconceived notions. Haven't most of us

been Tropical astrologers all our lives, up until now? That's how we

think. That's how I think. But perhaps, what Sidereal does is show us a

side to Astrology that we have not seen but which has great riches to it.

Instead of just saying, " Picasso--ah yes what a Scorpio! " and leaving it at

that, we are asked to delve deeper. 'No he wasn't a Scorpio as such', says

Sidereal, 'he was a Libra' (and when we say that Libra rules art we really

mean it!). But, he was a Libra with Cancer rising, and the ruling planet,

Moon in Scorpio, in the Fifth of self-expression. Actually when one looks

at Picasso's relationships with women, one could easily see a very

Cancerian character. He hated to be alone and NEEDED a woman around him

continually. But he would shove them away (Venus in Virgo [ " I want to be

alone " ] broadly square Mars in inconstant Gemini). With Sun in the Fourth

there are more Cancerian indications and he WAS a real homebody. He loved

his houses and could be quite the recluse (Sun opposition Saturn). The

ruler of the chart, Luna, is in Scorpio and his dealings with women could

be quite cruel and manipulative. Yes it is in the Fifth and was he ever

the showman! Whereas the full Tenth House indicates someone who was a

Master of his Profession, and who attained very high social standing.

Still it is odd to see a Libran so non-social. Libra, to my way of

thinking, is the quintessential Sign of Wanting to Belong and wanting to

show that it can cooperate. And yet Picasso was not very sociable for most

of his life. Perhaps we don't do as well with the challenge presented by

our Sun's Sign (i.e. our dharma) as we like to think! Picasso's challenge

was to be a Libra but he blew it. He acted much more the Water Sign

Cancerian rising with Moon in secretive Scorpio.

Now Kevin, tell me more about how to do Sidereal Solar Returns!!!

Yours, BB
