Another way of understanding the navamsa chart is tha, as the 9th harmonic,

there are nine little zodiacs running through the major zodiac. Each small

'sign' is 3 degrees 20 minutes in length. So beginning with Aries it goes

like this:

Aries=0 to 3 20

Taurus=3 20 to 6 40

Gemini=6 40 to 10

Cancer=10 to 13 20

And on through the zodiac. Many computer programs now calculate the

navamsa. If not, there are simple tables where you can look up a position.

The math experts can multiply by 9 if they want to! Chris gave the

underlying math for the navamsa.

So if you have a planet in 6Ar50, it will be in Gemini navamsa. Supposedly

the planet will take on the flavor of Mercury. If the natal planet is

Mercury, it will be stronger. If the natal planet is Mars, it will act less

like Mars because Mars is physical and it's in a sign ruled by mental

Mercury.

To draw up the navamsa chart, you take the sign of the navamsa ascendant

and make it the first 'house.' And so on around the chart. Each sign is a

'house.' The Fagan-Bradley school takes the Moon as the ascendant and

counts equal houses from there. The Fagan school calls the navamsa the

'novien,' and counts the signs from Taurus rather than from Aries.
