Guest guest
I've been hearing a lot in here lately about how sidereal qualities have become associated with the tropical signs due to the discrepency between the two. It's possible that i'm reading things wrong, but i'm not quite understanding how that could be. The way i figure it there are roughly two possibilities here. Either over the time that the gap between sidereal and tropical signs has been growing, the tropical astrologers have associated the traits of the sidereal signs into their readings of the tropical ones. Thus sidereal cancer becomes tropical leo, not only mathematically but in expression as well. If this were the case then I would think that the readings of tropical astrologers over time would have remained accurate over this span which i do not believe to be true. The other possibility is that for the tropical astrologer leo is still leo and they are not influenced by the sidereal cancer underlying the tropical leo. So the same qualities assigned to leo in a.d. 1 are those which you would read in tropical texts today. I believe this to be more the case, such that it is possible to get a more or less accurate reading of a sidereal position by reading the tropical text. Of course the truth is probably somewhere in between. But I think it is closer to the latter. I'd love to hear comments on this.
Guest guest
People always have a way of twisting things to sound the way they want them to be. Astrologers are no exception. For example, because the Sun is radiant and bright, Tropical Leos get the rep of liking attention and being (in extreme cases) ostentatious. But as the ruler of Sidereal Leo, the Sun is self sufficient and autonomous and doesn't really need encouragement or praise from others to feel whole. Those are the traits of the pure Sidereal Leo. The Moon, on the other hand, feels insecure without praise and encouragement. I've read in Tropical astrology books that folks with Cancer rising have round faces because the Moon is round. Like the other planets aren't round too? I've never known a person with Tropical Cancer rising with a perfectly round face. It's just a case of expecting or hoping that reality will fit into a preconceived notion. The only thing you or anyone can do is observe the people you know so that conclusions can be drawn. If you know, say, 12 people with Sun in Leo, note what traits they have in common. ....Bettina sheeptribe1 [sheeptribe1] Monday, April 12, 2004 5:47 AM sidereal expression through tropical signs I've been hearing a lot in here lately about how sidereal qualities have become associated with the tropical signs due to the discrepency between the two. That would mean that each zodiac area would have two contradictory meanings. " You want Pepsi? Great, here's some Pepsi. You want cherry soda? O.K. Here's some cherry soda. " What's actually in the vending machine? Pepsi or cherry soda? The logical truth has to be that each area of the ecliptic has certain influences on the planets, so the real question is, " In which area of the ecliptic does the Sun behave more like itself, Tropical or Sidereal Leo? " But first you have to get a handle on what the Sun is like. The same for the Moon and all the other planets. Starting with what they observe about the signs, Tropical astrology has made the mistake of attaching some bogus meanings to the planets. I've tried to show this here: http://users.snowcrest.net/sunrise/apolar1.htm The oldest Hellenistic texts didn't give meanings to areas of the eclptic. They simply noted that a planet would be influenced in such-and-such a way by being in a particular sign of the zodiac. So is the Moon more like itself in sidereal or Tropical Cancer, for example? But first....Just how does the Moon mannifest in astrology? How do we isolate how the Moon behaves? For starters, we can take the Moon on an angle in the horoscope for real people. That's what I've done in the article above. Sincerely, Therese
