Hi Richard, No, I don't have a Mercury-Jupiter contact unless it's hidden away in obscure midpoints. so let's see what I can do with your post. Digging out my GW criminal files: >As an example let's take George Bush in the 2000 election: >1. SSR New Haven...Uranus on MC ~ Gonna be President! I don't think I would interpret Uranus that way, especially since GW and company KNEW he was going to be president no matter how the American people voted. However... The New Haven return also has natal Uranus and Rahu on the SR ascendant. Now with western sidereal rules I'm not sure how this double Uranus would be interpreted. If you take Jyotish concepts, Rahu (and Uranus) are in the 11th natal house, so this puts the beneficial natal 11th planets on the ascendant. Rahu is a shady 'planet.' Astrology shows criminal activities, even if Bush & Co. think they got away with something. The most striking angular planet in this chart is the Moon at the nadir only 8 minutes from the ascendant degree/minute. This Moon conjoins natal Mars, 10th lord, but the orb is wider than siderealists might want to consider important: about 7 degrees. >2. SSR Crawford...Jupiter-Saturn crowd their midpoint ASC. I'm not getting this. I have an 18 Aries asc with Neptune at 12 Capricorn, and Jup/Sat settling into the 2nd house. This chart looks like a loser to me, except that all GW's natal 1st house planets are in the 4th, conj. the nadir/IC. Ketu (loss) is also conjunct the MC. No, I don't read this as a winning chart. >3. SSR Washington...The tight conjunction of Sun-Mercury-Mars which were just >wishy-washy in the 2nd and 2nd,3rd of the other two returns simply must somehow >go prominent. Here (Placidian) they fill the 1st house with a royal sextile from >Moon in the 4th house ~ Gonna be President! I have that conjunction well into the 2nd house. What I've got is Jupiter in the foreground (above the asc) opposed by Pluto in partile aspect to the ascendant (2 minutes). Ah!! Here it is. The Moon is again angular in the 4th conjunct natal Mars, but this time the degree on the nadir is 16Le58. Natal Mars? 16Le18!! Mars, 10th house natal lord for those who use house lords. Mars is the greatest benefic for Bush's Cancer asendant since it also rules the 5th. So here is the lie that benefits don't happen with angular malefics. I need to organize my few hundred examples of how house lords work in return charts. I think it was a very early post on this list which said that she (I think it was a she) found planets conjunct the nadir more telling that those conjunct the IC. Of course the nadir is a secondary angle, but generally astrologers give more emphasis to the IC. >Actually even before looking at the above I made preliminary judgement from >Barbara Bush's chart for the day _after election. Good ol' Barbara couldn't >conceal her great happiness in knowing the whys and wherefores of something we >couldn't possibly know. Yet. Brilliant deduction!! Using Barbara's chart. Thanks for your contribution on return charts, Richard. Strange--if I question a western sidereal doctrine, there will be some defensive responses from list members. But if I ask for clarification, the only response is from astrologers who tend to accept both zodiacs as valid. Thanks!! Therese
