Guest guest
Robin... I don't really understand so let me say this... If you are gonna do Sidereal... Do it without going through the process of doing charts in tropical and then switching them to Sidereal.... That is confusing and keeps you somewhat in a tropical mindset. Use software that does sidereal or use a sidereal ephemeris. cast and follow transits to return charts. The moon is one to follow on a regular basis... I watch three lunar return charts myself. they all speak from a " Different " perspective. 1) the straight lunar... your moon position at your birth was a particular degree and minute within a " sign " . Every month the moon returns to that position and a new cycle begins. 2) there are various methods of progresing the moon. The progressed lunar return is utilized by " some " siderealists but not all. 3 then there is the lunar phase return. I like this one (also not recommended by all siderealists). This is a cycle which begins when the moon and the sun return to the same position as it was when you were born (in terms of phase). As for the " new " moon... do a chart for the new moon as that is the beginning of a new cycle... But do it in the Sidereal... Guest guest
Thank you Juan for your very informative reply to my pretty blurry question! I appreciate it, and understand what my blind spot seems to be with moving from tropical to sidereal! Will give it a whirl!!!!!! Thanks again! Guest guest
" flyfishergal2001 <horizons " <horizons Question on MOON sign Hi, I am new to the this group, and to the study of Sidereal Astrology. Been looking into it for about 2 months or so. It sure has answered a lot of questions for me; that's for sure. Now that I have discovered it, I realize, of courrse my chart is fire oriented (7 planets/luminaries in fire signs) as opposed to earth-heavy, as I have believed for years! No wonder I dash about through life, never creating the standard life foundations of more " grounded " folks.....and the freer and more independent I am, the happier. Very un-earth like indeed! At any rate, I have always paid attention to the moon phases......by sign and whether it is void of course. The question now seems to be HOW to follow the Moon by sign and VOC. In sidereal.....shall I just subtract the 23 degrees and figure the sign THAT way, or do we calculate the Moon as we do in Tropical? Seems that even if we do it with the Sidereal.....that it will be very difficult to determine when it is void of course? *******That apparently depends, it seems, on which sidereal zodiac you wish to use -- -- -- the actual stars, or a sort of " idealized " sidereal zodiac where the constellations are divided into 12 equal zones of 30 degrees each, which apparently some sidereal astrologers want to use, according to what I've heard here. If you want to use the actual stars, I guess you would turn to the listing of where the stars currently are by longitude. So you would have to figure out when the Moon was actually leaving one constellation and when it was entering the next. > A more tangible question is.......how do we know when it's the New > Moon? If the tropical world says the new moon in Sag was Dec. 4, and > in Sidereal.....we believe the Sun is in Scorpio.......shall we > subtract 23 degrees from the tropical moon and find WHEN the Moon > first hits Scorpio to discover when the New Moon is? > Basically.........because the Moon is so close to the Earth and > orbits the Earth (not the Sun, like most every other > planet)........how does Sidereal really apply measurement and sign > interepretation to the Moon? The moon is conjunct the sun or opposed to the sun at the same moment, regardless of what is in the background astronomically. All of the aspects of the planets, in fact, like Mercury squaring Mars or the sun opposed Saturn or Venus trine Jupiter or what ever, are exactly the same in either system. The only thing that changes is what we picture being behind them. Dr. Starman http://www.DrStarman.net

The times and date of the void of course Moon will be different in the Tropical and Sidereal zodiacs. Obviously, since the Moon's degree position will be different. A planet in say 28 degrees of Tropical Aries (and perhaps void-of-course) will be in early Aries in the sidereal zodiac. >> A more tangible question is.......how do we know >> when it's the New Moon? The new Moon is the New Moon, that is when it's exactly conjunct the Sun. Any sign in any zodiac. >>shall we subtract 23 degrees from the tropical moon and find WHEN the Moon >> first hits Scorpio to discover when the New Moon is? It sounds here as if instead of 'new moon' you mean when the Moon enters an astrological sign. The western sidereal astrologers used to have a really neat way of changing from the Tropical to sidereal zodiac (before computers). Instead of SUBTRACTING 23 degrees (or whatever the amount is) from Tropoical positions, they would ADD the difference between 23 and 30 degrees to the Tropical signs and GO BACK ONE SIGN. This is SO much easier than working with the 23 degree figure. Usually the conversion is somewhere between 5 and 8 degrees (adding that to the Tropical figures.) Usually this simple conversion can be done mentally. Terese
Guest guest
Thanks Terese! Yes, I later found that article about the EASY way to convert -- probably in the Sidereal.zip files. Soooooo much easier! Also in the zip files......I loved the Fagan explanation of the cappy who was really all Saggy.....which was my experience. Fun to see yourself used as an example! Thanks for everything. I look forward to further discussions with you.....I appreciate what you said during the Great Debate last week.
