Hi Chris,

My appraoch to Jyotish isn't very traditional either. Want to share

something about your background? Jyotish is a lot closer to the Tropical

system than the Fagan/Allen system. Except that F/A emphasizes the planets

a lot and so does Jyotish.

I did't realize there was a F/A system per se, but I'm all ears! As for my

background, I studied WA for a couple of years then got bored with all the

fuzziness of it. Heard about jyotish and thought, wow, this is much more

analytical and more to my liking. So I've been learning various aspects of

that for about 5 years now. I'm pretty skeptical about a lot of it,

although I use the vimshottari dashas and rulerships in a fairly

conventional way. I like to use the precise positions in varga charts

which is a more recent invention I think. Lately, I've been learning

nakshatra rulerships as well. I'm sort of a student of Rick Houck's,

although I've never formally studied with him or anyone else, for that

matter. As a result, I rely on various rates of progression to assist my

analysis. So I'm very much a hybrid western jyotishi. Never been to India,

and have never belonged to a Hindu religious organization -- not that

there's anything wrong with that!

The puzzle's the thing.

How did you come by jyotish?

Chris
