Guest guest
In reply to recent comments and questions about the chart of Al Gore from RistoV. and Kevin: From Kevin: >Gore's SSR (3/31/2000, Washington DC, 8:58:37AMEST), is another story. His >SSR foreground planets are the Moon (emotional issues) Saturn (which makes an >approaching square to his Natal Saturn -- uh oh!), Uranus (big disruptions >and disappointment...END OF KEVIN'S COMMENTS. As I've written to Ken Bowser about Gore's chart, the Indian and western systems interpret the solar return somewhat differently. It will be interesting to see which system triumphs on election day. For starters: (1) The Moon and Uranus aren't in the foreground in the Jyotish chart since the Indian system only considers the asc/dec and points square to that axis (houses 4/10). (2) That leaves Mars, Jupiter and Saturn in the foreground 7th. Mars and Jupiter are well placed in Aries, and Saturn is a highly benefic planet for the Libra rising solar return chart. Saturn also has " dig bala " or positional strength in the 7th. Thus, Saturn is strong and benefic. (3) Yes, SSR Saturn is squaring natal Saturn (from Aries). And in 1992 when the Clinton/Gore ticket won, the SSR Saturn at 22 Capricorn was opposing natal Saturn (exactly), which means it was also opposing Mars. Uranus and Neptune (24 and 25 Sag) were quincunx (the accident and death aspect) natal Saturn and Mars in Gore's 1992 SSR. This SSR chart placed the SSR Pluto/Saturn square in Gore's natal 4th-7th houses. These planets were in foreground signs (1st and 4th), but they weren't close to the SSR angles by degree. (Maybe Saturn was near the IC. I don't know.) (4) The solar return angles tend to repeat every four years, and this means that Libra is the ascendant for Al Gore in election years. Libra was his SSR ascendant in 1992 when he and Clinton were first victorious and also in 1996 when Clinton/Gore won again, and of course, it's his 2000 ascendant. In 1992 SSR Venus was with the Moon in Aquarius in the 5th. Al has this same pattern in his current solar return chart, but now Mercury (9th lord) is with these two planets. This creates a stronger conjunction. However, since the 5th isn't a foreground house, the western sidereal system wouldn't give much importance to this combination. For people new to western sidereal astrology, the comments above are definitely not part of the western system. They belong to north India, and are closely related to Tropical horary astrology. Now for RISTO'S comments: " I glanced at Gore's 2000 SSR chart for the first time in January last year. I got immediately concerned, because - to me - the whole picture looks even quite dangerous. " As you (Kevin) said, SSR Uranus is opposing Gore's natal Mars within a degree accounting for precession). The effects of this are greatly amplified due to their proximity to the SSR MC/IC. Also, considering the natal background: - I use Meridian houses for Gore, and this opposition axis falls right on his natal 2-8 cusps. Previously I have seen Mars/Uranus aspects on SR's in several cases violent death, especially by firearms. John Lennon, former PM of Sweden Olof Palme, etc.....) END OF RISTO'S COMMENTS. Generally an opposition of transiting Uranus to Mars looks quite dangerous. However, in Gore's case the picture is a little different. Only Indian astrology can explain this. Mars is an extremely benefic planet for Gore's Cancer rising natal chart, since it's the lord of houses 5 and 10. Note that in Gore's 1992 SSR, the year of the Clinton/Gore first win, Saturn (22 CP), Uranus (24 SG), Neptune (25 SG) and even Pluto at 28 LI (if you give an orb of 4 degrees) were all aspecting Gore's natal Mars. Now let's look at two of Gore's unfortunate years, the year of the loss of his 1988 presidential bid and 1989, the year of his son's close-to-death accident that changed Al's life. In his 1988 SSR Virgo is the ascendant. This mutable ascendant highlights Gore's four cadent natal signs. Uranus, Saturn and Neptune are in the SSR 4th house, and Neptune is closely squaring the Sun in the SR 7th foreground. A real key in this chart is that the ascendant lord Mercury is in the 6th with Rahu in exact partile conjunction to natal Uranus in 12th. In other words, it looks like we don't want aspects to natal Uranus for good luck for Al, but Uranus aspecting natal Mars is O.K. Both the 1988 (loss of bid) and the 1989 chart (son's accident) have Uranus/Saturn/Neptune in angular SSR signs square an angular Sun. Sag rises in the 1989 SSR, and again we find the ascendant lord (Jupiter) in the SSR 6th. (Similar to the loss-of-bid year.) So afflictions to an angular SSR Sun brought unfortunate results for Al Gore. There were no afflictions to natal Mars in these two charts, but Mars was strongly aspected in the fortunate 1992 election year. RISTO adds: " Of course, Jupiter and Mars are angular, too, near the SSR DS, but Neptune exactly squaring that Mars does not do too much to brighten up the picture....Does anybody else perceive risk and danger in these configurations? " (END OF RISTO'S QUOTE.) Neptune square Mars never sounds very positive, and this aspect is partile. Does it make a difference that Mars is the lord of the 7th (the " other " ), and Neptune is the 6th lord (enemies)? Can this mean the defeat of " the other, " and victory for the owner of the chart, whose lord Venus is in an extremely fortunate combination in the 5th? (This would probably be the Indian view.) So there is a big difference in how the eastern and western systems see Gore's SSR chart for this year. We'll all know after the election which system has worked.
