Guest guest
Dear Kevin, Since I feel the Sidereal is the only way to go - I felt that this was the best list to learn the Western aspects (in addition to Vedic) with the " correct " Zodiac being used (Correct put in speechmarks so as not to offend anyone :-) ). Tropical Zodiac doesn't appear as accurate, although I'm not condemning it entirely as I haven't studied it enough to be able to. Very best - Sateesh. ========= - <aumgn93 04 May 2000 01:45 OBTW (was Re: Hello, New People!) > In a message dated 00-05-03 20:40:46 EDT, I wrote: > > >And while we're at it, why are you here? Guest guest
Hello, everyone. Thank you, Crystal, for telling your story of how you came to join us. It suddenly occurred to me I haven't told mine (at least, not in a while <g>). I never believed astrology had any merit until about twelve years ago. In the very early 80's, I was trying to write a " sword and sorcery " novel (which I never finished, and it's probably just as well :-P While trying to reseach the " magic " part of the book, I chose to read a book by a man whom I'd never heard anything good about -- Aleister Crowley. After reading his book _Magick in Theory and Practice_, I was convinced Crowley had been misunderstood. This was the beginning of the end of the " materialist fundamentalist " worldview I'd acquired towards the end of my undergraduate days. After I moved from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles, I met and became friends with an astrologer named Jim Eshelman. Jim would frequently have friends over at his house on Wednesday evenings to discuss various metaphysical subjects, and after several months, astrology came up. (Up until then, I didn't know that Jim had been an astrologer, and an author of some excellent books on astrology as well.) I made it quite clear that I was still skeptical of astrology. One of the things Jim did was do all of our charts. He showed us why we were what we were, but I still wasn't convinced. After all, it's easy to read a friend's chart, so I challenged him to do a stranger's. I gave him the birthdata for someone I knew that he didn't -- and his delineation was extremely accurate. Not only was I convinced, I was thrilled about the possibilities astrology offered, especially forecasting the future through transits and luminary returns. Now, before I forget, I should mention that one of my reasons for rejecting astrology was the discrepancy between the " signs " and the constellations they take their names from. Since Jim was a Siderealist (and I'd never heard of this type of astrology before), he was able to get me to take a look at astrology. Using methods I learned from Jim and his books, I began doing my own charts, and those of my friends. One of these friends had a Sidereal Solar Return in 1993 which accurately predicted the emotional upheavals she had that year. Her Tropical return didn't predict them at all. I'm glad I was able to let her know that she wouldn't have a good year, but, with her returns for 1994 and 1995, I showed her that life would get better. Further comparison of other people's Tropical and Sidereal returns showed very similar results. Other people into astrology whom I've met, especially on line, are becoming more open about how they're more like their Sidereal sign than their Tropical. Naturally, this tends to keep me convinced, too. Since I don't think Sidereal astrology has really gotten a fair chance to prove its case, I started this list. That was last November. Today, just six months and two days later, we have over fifty members. I just can't thank you enough for joining and posting! Guest guest
Dear Kevin, I have a question please? What is sidereal astrology? I like astrology and believe in it,but never have gotten that involved . thank you linda
Guest guest
Hello Kevin, I am ready to answer this question. Thought about it off and on for the past three weeks. I would not submit until I felt I really understood this myself. I have recently joined Professor 's SATVA list, and, although I've learned about the various systems and methodologies.....(; ) back in the 'good ol' days )....(and, for clarity of 'where I'm coming from', I was not able to keep up with the studying, nor get on with interpreting for others for the past ten years or so, after picking up my first book in Sept. of 1980- which leaves me with a multitude of " duhhhhhhh " moments for me when conversing with others, not to mention all of the " uhhh, I knew that " moments as well.) I don't want to make an uneducated decision so I will learn all I can and see what I feel to be correct. Anyway- the answer. Bottom line.......I like preciseness. So, I'm looking for it. <----Period.<---psssst. spell check is AWWWWLways on! Guest guest
Dear Linda, Sidereal Astrology uses the constellations rather than the Equinox points to determine a person's " sign " . It also takes equinoctal precession into account when calculating transits. For example, consider the upcoming Jupiter-Saturn conjunction. According to Tropical Astrology, it will be in the " sign " of Taurus. But, if you plot their current positions on a star globe, you'll see Jupiter and Saturn are in the constellation Aries. (I just love my star globe :-) ) Later, Kevin/Baraka

Guest guest
Hello people, I've read Kevin's short story about his way into astrology. It was interesting and I some questions. 1) I think Crowley used the tropical astrology? 2) I've been trying to use some hints you gave me in other maps, but some doesn't seem to match with the person. There are cases os persons with 3 planets in Capricorn for example (sun, venus and mars), and mercury in Sagitarius. When we use sidereal all of the planets go to virgo, but the person is a classical Capricornian. Impossible to say that doesn't have Capricornian characteristics. 3) Do you consider the planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, if so, the rulership os the signs are the same? (pluto-scorpio; uranus -aquarius...), because in jyotish these planets are not used. 4) Where can I find a star map like you've wrote? 5) A good book for beggining on sidereal! Obs. To do a map in sidereal, i've been using the solar fire program, with the Lahiri Zodiac. Lahiri was a great Hindu Astrologer, so I suppose it's a sidereal view. Do you know somwthing about it? Why not try the web? Or _Sky & Telescope_ magazine, or any store that sells telescopes, scientific equipment, or astronomers' supplies. True, but Crowley wasn't primarily an astrologer, and, before the mid-1940's (Crowley died in 1947), _everybody_ who was an astrologer in the West was a tropicalist (including Fagan!). > 2) I've been trying to use some hints you gave me in other maps, but some > doesn't seem to match with the person. Both are still considered Sidereal because both correct for precession. Later, Kevin/Baraka

Hahah! As people say, Freud would explain that! Sorry, where is written Virgo, read Sagitarius, because then, (if I take the map, in Lahiri Zodiac, all the four planets go to Sagitarius. But the person has too much of capricorn, not sagitarius. I've been thinking about the points you've commented like the midpoint between Sun and Moon. I know that from times we use geometric points in the sky ( ex. The dragons, the Lilith), to read something, but I cannot understand the meaning of the midpoint between sun and moon. Thank for the Star Globe! Peace, Eduardo.
