Sorry if I missed it, but the _ayanamsa_ is the discrepancy between the

Tropical and the Sidereal zodiacs. At the moment, it's roughly 25*.

I use Halloran's AstrolDeluxe Writer for Windows, which only offers Tropical,

Sidereal, and Draconian zodiacs, with no choice of ayanamsas.

Most of these different _ayanamsas_ are within roughly one degree of each

other.

Fagan & Bradley have Spica at being at 29*06' Virgo. And, since it's in

Virgo, that makes sense <g>.

The planets and signs have the same symbolism in either approach.

Hope that helps,

Kevin/Baraka

Sidereal astrology is a " Western jyotish " . Unlike our colleagues from India,

we do include Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, and have the options of various

asteroids and points such as the Vertex and Black Moon Lilith as well.

A Western Siderealist can, if he or she likes, use the same sign & house

delineations as a Tropicalist, and will probably look at the aspects the same

way as well. Remember that the real, essential difference between Tropical

and Sidereal astrology is not that one says Aries is a leader and Scorpio is

secretive and the other doesn't. Instead, the debate is over how to

determine a person's " sign " -- by the declination of the sun and it's

distance from the Vernal equinox point (Tropical) or the constellation the

sun was in at the birth time (Sidereal).

Dear Kevin/Baraka,

Thank you for clarifying this. You see, I thought that Sidereal and Vedic

Astrology were two different things, that's why I asked what was the " other "

term for ayanamsa. I mean I knew that Vedic astrology is based on sidereal

wheel, but I assumed that *sidereal astrology* (or what is referred to it)

had the same house signification as the tropical. Should I now be assuming

that in sidereal astrology you don't take into consideration the " Gods of

change, pain, crises and transformation " - Uranus, Neptune and Pluto? Can I

safely conclude that Sidereal Astrology is another name for Vedic Astrology

or Jyotish?

(Do I hear an applause or what?)

Thank you Kevin for stating this in such a concise and clear fashion.

Hopefully this will serve to clear the cobwebs from the minds of many. I

love this definition.

Dear Kevin!

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain this to me. Now that

the basics are clear, I think I'll be able to follow the discussion with

more understanding.
