HURRICANE KATRINA - NEW ORLEANS DEVASTATION

Dear Friends,

 

This post is quite lengthy so I hope readers will not mind too much

as I wanted to put forward my analysis on this catastrophic event.

 

First though, I would like to express my sadness at the loss of life

and the hardship that is currently being experienced by the people

of the Gulf-states and the American people in general. This event

seems to be America's worst natural disaster. Though this article

will be concentrating on New Orleans, we must not forget the many

other cities and towns where life was lost, like Gulfport MS, Biloxi

MS and Mobile AL.

 

I have had a look at four charts of the USA that are currently being

used on various lists, namely the Sibly chart, the Grimes chart, the

Angelino (SAMVA) chart and the Gaunt chart (1). In looking at this

event in particular, I found that Ron Gaunt's chart for the

Inauguration of George Washington as the first US President is the

one that, in my opinion, more closely reflects the current natural

tragedy that has occurred in New Orleans. However, the technique

that I am presenting is a slight variation in that I have relocated

the Washington Inauguration chart to New Orleans.

 

The concept of relocating a birth chart is not new but it seems to

me that it might be valid in mundane astrology for countries that

are large in area and/or have a number of timezones, like the United

States, Australia, China and Russia.

 

As a matter of interest, when you relocate a birth chart, you need

to enter not only the new place and its latitude and longitude and

the timezone, but you must also adjust the birth time of the chart

too so that you get an equivalent chart. For most software packages,

you can enter the letters LMT into the timezone field and the

software should work out the exact Local Mean Time for that

location. This can tell you the difference in the two timezones and

then you can use this difference to add or subtract to the original

birth time. To ensure you have adjusted the birth time correctly,

one test is to make sure you have the exact same degree and minute

of the Moon for the relocated chart as you do for the Moon in the

original birth chart. Some software packages, like Solar Fire, do

have a feature that automates this procedure to a large extent in

that you only need to enter the place you want to relocate the chart

to and it will do the rest. Astracadabra does not have this feature

yet so you must do it manually.

 

Further, for relocation, any change to latitude of a place on the

same longitude will not change the MC at all but will change the

Ascendant and the Vertex of the location. Any change to longitude

will change the MC position and therefore the Ascendant and Vertex.

So, the main things to look for in a relocated chart are any aspects

to the " angles " - MC, Ascendant and Vertex, and of course, the

opposite points.

 

As for the idea of relocating the Gaunt US chart, I have checked

only a few other major US events for relocating that chart. The

relocation idea of this chart seems to work for September 11, the

1906 Earthquake in San Francisco and the 1900 Galveston hurricane

(2). No doubt, further work needs to be done to confirm this idea on

other historical events.

 

I have also had a look at a few events in Australia relocating the

Australian chart (3). One event that showed up more clearly using

the relocation method is the Bali bombing, back in 2002 (3).

 

Now back to the devastation of New Orleans…

 

In this analysis, I have used the Krishnamurti (KP) system and have

used the major Western aspects. Here are the chart details I have

used so that this analysis can be followed:

 

* Ron Gaunt's USA chart:

April 30, 1789 11:47:16 am (rectified)

Washington DC 39N57 08 75W09 51

LMT 05:00:40

Asc = 26:13:58 Cancer

 

* Relocated Gaunt USA chart:

April 30, 1789 10:47:38 am

NOTE: I have adjusted the birth time back by 59m38s

 

* New Orleans Flooded

August 30, Noon,

same location as above,

TZ = CDT 5:00 hours

Asc = 22:32:50 Libra (for Noon)

NOTE: I used Noon on the next day since it became apparent then

that the flooding was the major problem in New Orleans. I do not

have a time when the levees broke causing the current flooding.

 

Software Settings:

Houses system = Placidus

Zodiac = Krishnamurti New ayanamsa (Astracadabra)

Moon's Nodes = Mean

 

ANALYSIS

We can see that the Gaunt relocated US chart for New Orleans brings

the chart's Uranus to the ascendant and Neptune close to the IC (4th

cusp).

 

The Badhaka planet (harmful to life) for the Cancer ascendant is

Venus, while the Maraka planets are Sun (2nd), Saturn (7th) and

Mercury (12th). The planets signifying the 6th, 8th and 12th houses

in this chart are: 6th = Moon, Jupiter, Saturn; 8th = Rahu (North

Node), Saturn; 12th = Moon, Jupiter, Saturn. We can see that Saturn

is listed for all three malefic houses. We can also see that Moon

and Jupiter are listed for both 6th and 12 houses. Property, natural

resources, home affairs and natural calamities are usually judged as

the 4th house in mundane astrology. The 4th house significators for

this chart are the Sun and Venus.

 

At the time of this major event in US history, the chart was running

Rahu/Rahu/Rahu/Jupiter/Venus, having made the change to the Rahu

main period lord on July 26, 2005. The main period of Rahu, using

this US chart, now lasts until July 26, 2023.

 

In the relocated chart, Rahu is the agent of Mars, Rahu being

located in the sign of Scorpio, and Jupiter aspects Rahu (widely)

from the 12th house.

 

Looking at the transit aspects to this relocated chart, we see that

Saturn is impacting on the Ascendant, and, at the same time, is

conjunct natal Uranus – the planet of the unexpected. All are in

the " water " sign of Cancer (sidereal zodiac). It is often suggested

that Uranus is the great " air " planet and so may signify the weather

and when negatively influenced, perhaps hurricanes.

 

Ebertin's book, " The Combination of Stellar Influences " , is quite

telling about the combination of Saturn, Uranus and

Ascendant: " Being placed in difficult circumstances, the fate of

standing alone in the world. – The suffering of difficulties caused

by others, experiencing emotional suffering together with others,

mourning and bereavement. "

 

The influence of the natural malefic Saturn and its signification of

the three malefic houses 6th, 8th and 12th, and its conjunction with

the Ascendant and Uranus of this relocated chart, clearly indicates

destructive forces at work. I also note that Uranus and Rahu are

also in the Star of Saturn in this US chart thus linking these two

planets to Saturn. By transit, Saturn was now in its own Star

focussing its negative energy on the Ascendant and Uranus. Rahu, as

stated earlier, is the current lord of three levels of the dasa

sequence.

 

By transit, Uranus is moving through the 8th house and forms a

sesquisquare (135*) aspect to the IC (4th cusp) as well as a square

(90*) aspect to the natal Vertex for this location. Rahu is also

forming a trine (120*) aspect to the Vertex too so that both of

these planets " connected with " Saturn are influencing the Vertex for

New Orleans in a negative way. The transit Sun (maraka) was also

opposite transit Uranus at this time and so it too, forms a square

to the natal Vertex.

 

As mentioned earlier, Venus is the Badhaka planet for the Cancer

Ascendant – the Badhaka planet being harmful to life. By transit, it

was conjunct Ketu (South Node) and close to Jupiter. (Incidentally,

I have been watching these two bright planets coming together in the

evening sky recently.) As was seen before, Jupiter is the

significator for the 6th and 12th houses while Venus signifies the

4th house (as well as the 11th and 10th houses) so the influence of

Jupiter on both Venus and Ketu would have been a negative one. These

three were moving through the 3rd house of the US chart signifying

communications, transport and infrastructure in mundane astrology.

As was seen by the flooding of New Orleans, all of these were

affected.

 

The tightest aspect in transit was a square (90*) from transit

Saturn to natal Venus at 8 minutes of arc, again another indication

of a disrupted home environment. The combination of the transiting

triple conjunction of Venus, Ketu and Jupiter impacted on natal Mars

(180*) in the 9th house and Ketu (135*) in the 11th house, while

transit Rahu was conjunct Mars in the 9th house.

 

While there are still more things in these charts, I will leave it

for now. My main point was to demonstrate that the relocated Gaunt

US chart clearly shows more detail for that location than the

Washington-based one, though the Washington chart does show similar

aspect patterns but misses the Ascendant, IC and Vertex impacts for

New Orleans.
