Dear Kanak,

I am so happy an able astrologer like you is showing interest in civic or political astrology. To explain with an example in a mail is quite difficult.I will refer you to my article in the Astrological Magazine, june issue, captioned "Planetary clouds over Manmohan ministry" , where I have dwelt in length the ways and means to profitably employ

eclipse in mundane astrology, stricly adhering to directives enlisted in the Samhitas.Anyway, I will give you a birds eye view of what I understand from these books .If you want to know something about a nation, first you need to know the time the country came into existence. For India, it is the Independence chart. This forms the basis of our study. Then depending upon the jovian year, we need to give prediction for each year.We experience difficulty since there is more than one jovian year.On my end I rely on Vashita's statement to consider the year commences with the entry of Sun into siderial Aries.A chart is cast for the precise momemt of the ingress based on the capital (Delhi in our case).Subsequent eclipse that occurs during the given year , are carefully noted , co-related with the ingress chart as well as the Independence chart and predictions issued accordingly. The fundamental difference between modern writers and the masters of the remote past

is the latter never made use of any dasha system.A careful perusal through the Samhitas will convince you, that they heavily relied on the Eclipses(both SE & LE)

The concepts like compressed vimsottari dasha, and drawing dasha balance for mundane events were alien to these gifted men of wisdom.

Regarding the new born baby, it is yet to arrive and I will certainly let you know, once the birth occurs

Dears Pranav and Upadhyay,

I too am very keen to learn Mundane Astrology...I have already placed orders for two books,on Mundane Astrology, one by Shri M.C.Jain,and the other by Shri J.C.Luthra...I guess, for a beginner these are good for me...to understand the fundamentals...?

Kindly suggest which other modern books that I should read...because I had, read many years ago, perfunctorily read a few, when I was in Inter Science...my uncle had a collection of some very old translations of some Samhitas on Mundane Astrology...and I found them quite uninteresting at that time...and I preferred reading Brihat Jataka amd Jataka Parijata et al mostly on predictive astrology...which was the then current "rage" in the 1960's...I have laid stress on modern books, only because I guess, new concepts must surely have entered into Mundane Astrology over the years...and find place in these books...

Kindly suggest names of books and where to place an order for them...

Also I am keen to get a modern treatise on Surya Sidhdhanta...kindly suggest place to send order...

I shall be immensely grateful to you both...and btw I will surely get the Astrological Magazine June 2005...and ready your article Pranav...

With regards,

Yours sincerely,

L.Y.Rao.

GOOD LUCK !

Dear Rauji,

Thanks for your interest in Mundane astrology.Cetainly, the books of Luthra and Jain will give a birds-eye,but do remember, the method outlined by the authors are neither based on traditional jyotish nor western system and fails miserably in actual practise. One more important point based on experiece. When you undertake a study in Mundane astrology, please don't overlook the outerplanets especially Pluto. This planet is of great significance in delineating mundane effect of the nation and the world as a whole.I will give an example. When pluto was in the intial degrees of Sagittarius, the 9th sign of the natural zodiac ruled by jupiter, the planet of religion, a die-hard conservative person (Ratzinger) was elected as the pope. What does it signify ? It means transit of Pluto in Sagittarius will give rise to religious fundamentalism especially christian fundamentalism, the reason is the first 13deg20min is ruled by kethu, the planet representing

christians.Recently, I was having a chat with VS Kalyanaraman IPS(retd), the noted writer in astronomy/ astrology, who was closely associated with the late N C Lahiri, RG Vaidya and C G Rajan. He told me researches proves that the planet pluto, known in some other sanskrit name was known to Indians, and when the grandsire Bheeshma was expecting death in his "sharashayyah" , a reference was made about few planets moving in certain constellation. And these pertain to the outerplanets

Dear Kanak,

There are some books published by Ranjan publication (authors--Indians) in Mundane astrologyThey are just cook books, and I don't find anything informative in it.What I strongly recommend is you should read, Samhitas, to be more specfic, Brahma Samhita.,Brihaspathi Samhita, Brihat Samhita, Vasishta Samhita, Naradha Samhita etc.(all in sanskrit except Brihat samhita, which is available in English,Malayalam etc)There is another Samhitha attributed to Ravana; but I think it is of spurious orgin.

Once you read this ,you will get an insight of the tremendous knowledge possessed by our ancients. If you can't spare time to read all these books, I will put it in a capsule the gist of all these Samhitas. It is "ECLIPSE & ECLIPSE" only followed by secondary tools like retrogression and direction of non-luminaries, ingress, planetary rising and setting etc

Re: More on the Triple Conjunction

L.Y.Rao.

GOOD LUCK !

The fundamental difference between modern writers and the masters of the remote past is the latter never made use of any dasha system.A careful perusal through the Samhitas will convince you, that they heavily relied on the Eclipses(both SE & LE)

The concepts like compressed vimsottari dasha, and drawing dasha balance for mundane events were alien to these gifted men of wisdom.

Regarding the new born baby, it is yet to arrive and I will certainly let you know, once the birth occurs

Yogesh ji & Friends,

Few years back my uncle, who himself is a very good KP astrologer, met Mr. J.C.Luthra. Luthra ji told him that he makes all predictions using KP only, but as most of the popular magazines avoid KP, he translate methodology to classical and then used to publish in magazines. Though I have never met Mr. Luthra, according to my uncle, he is an excellent KP astrologer. He was very suspicious to share his true methodology and was not ready to teach anybody, so the core is missing from the book. Anyways IMO it is the best modern book written on Mundane astrology.

Thanks & Regards,

Punit Pandey
