35 year dasha chakra

 

[ 35 year Dasha chakra should be used for the Varsh Phal chart where as the traditional Vinshottari dasha should be used for the Janma Kundali ]

 

 

Lal Kitab suggests a 35 year dasha cycle. The sequence of the planets and the dasha years in the dasha cycle are:

 

Jupiter 6 yrs,

sun 2 yrs,

moon 1 yr,

venus 3 yrs,

mars 6 yrs,

mercury 2 yrs,

Saturn 6 years,

rahu 6 yrs

& ketu 3 yrs.

In order to remember the sequence, just remember the sequence in which the planets have been placed and described in the all the books of Lal Kitab.

 

Within the dasha of a planet there are three antardashas of equal duration. For example the antar dasha sequence within the Jupiter dasha is ketu, Jupiter and sun. Each planet will have a period of two years.Therefore the first segment will be Jupiter / ketu,

the second Jupiter / Jupiter ; and the third Jupiter / sun .

Unfortunately, the book carries just a small paragraph on this 35 year dasha chakra. It is too sketchy. It neither explains how to calculate the dasha nor its phal [ results ].

At least I have not come across any evidence, from the written material that we have, that Pt. Roopchand ji used this dasha himself.

 

Since there are no instructions as to how the dasha cycle will be calculated, Lal Kitab scholars have come up with various alternatives as to how it should be calculated.

 

[ A ] One of the LK scholar in his recently published book has suggested that the dasha should be calculated on the basis of Janma samay ka grah [ planet of the time of birth ].

 

The fallacy of this argument is that all those born during dark nights or Krishna Paksha and on cloudy days will start their dasha with Saturn. Hence more than half of the horoscopes will have Saturn as their starting dasha. That does not sound reasonable nor probable.

 

[ B ] The other alternative suggested is that the dasha should be calculated on the basis of the planet of the day [ janma din ka grah ].

 

If that being so, then no body would ever start the dasha with either Rahu or ketu. Both these planets have not been assigned any day to them. That again would not be probable.

 

[ C ] An alternative procedure to draw up the 35 year dasha cycle system has been proposed known as the ‘grah ka daura’ solution.

 

The premises of the solution are that:

 

[a] which ever grah reaches the 1st house first will be taken as the operating planet from that year onwards for the 35 year dasha cycle.

 

in case there are more than one grah reaching the throne [ 1st house ] then the grah starting the dasha will be decided according to the sequence of planets laid down for the 35 year dasha cycle. For example if both venus and the Saturn reach the first house then it is the venus which will be taken as the operating planet because the venus has a precedence over Saturn in the sequence.

[c] If a planet reaches the 1st house in the 3rd year then the initial two years of the native will be supposed to be under the dasha of the planet preceding that reached planet in the sequence.

Now let us take up an example horoscope and see what happens :

Horoscope :

Fourth house : Saturn, rahu

Fifth house : moon, mercury, venus

Sixth house : sun , mars, jupiter

Tenth house : ketu

Saturn and rahu will be the first planets to reach the 1st house in the 4th year. Since the Saturn has precedence over rahu in the 35 year dasha cycle, therefore it will be the Saturn which will be assumed to operate from the 4th year till the 9th year. Then Rahu will take over for 6 years till the 15th year and then Ketu and so on.

So far so good; no problem.

Now let us work out the operating planets from birth till the 4th year before the Saturn takes over.

The preceding planet to the Saturn in the 35 year dasha cycle is mercury. Now let us see whether mercury will be operative or not. If you notice mercury is a dormant planet ‘soya hua grah’. Now how can mercury be an operating planet if he himself is not awakened?

Let us move to the next one preceding the mercury and that one is Mars. Unfortunately mars too is dormant. You will notice that we will have to move down all the way to Ketu because all the planets in between are dormant.

Therefore ketu will be the operating planet for the 1st, 2nd and the 3rd year of the native.

Thus the 35 year cycle of the native based on ‘grah ka daura’ solution will look like this :

Ketu : 1 to 3

Saturn : 4 to 9

Rahu : 10 to 15

Ketu : 16 to 18

Jupiter : 19 to 24

And so on….

Did you notice the anomaly?

When we say that it is a 35 year cycle, it implies that a planet will repeat itself only after the cycle of 35 years is complete. In the above cycle for the native Ketu repeats itself much before the cycle is completed. Secondly the sequence had to be altered, instead of mercury preceding the Saturn, it is the ketu operating before Saturn.

Therefore the grah ka daura solution can be used only if you are prepared to accept that :

[ a ] a planet can become operative in the 35year dasha cycle even though it is dormant or soya hua for all other purposes in the horoscope and has yet to awaken.

[ b ] That the sanctity of the term cycle [ chakra ] has no meaning or is not relevant as far as the 35 year dasha is concerned and a planet can become operative even if the cycle is not complete. Remember the Lal Kitab talks about quite a few cycles in various other contexts.

Hence all the three suggested methods are ruled out as not being logical or probable.

Then what could be the other logical solution?

The concept of a short duration dasha system is not new. The traditional vedic astrology already uses a 36 year dasha system known as Yogini dasha system. It is very popular in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and the Garhwal hills of Uttaranchal area.

Most of the horoscopes cast by the Pundits from these areas will invariably have this Yogini dasha elaborated and plotted in the horoscope. Since the Lal Kitab also

originates from the same geographical region , it is but natural that the Lal Kitab paddhati also has a similar short duration dasha system.

Therefore the 35 year dasha chakra is not an innovative suggestion coming out of the blue. It is a part of a well established astrology tradition of short duration dasha

systems. The 35 year dasha chakra of the Lal Kitab is, therefore, addressed to the pundits and the readers who were already familiar with another equally popular short

duration dasha system namely the Yogini dasha.

That being the case, pt. Roopchand ji took it for granted that the pundits and other readers of the Lal Kitab would already be familiar with the method of calculation and also the dasha phal [ result of the dasha]. Since all astrologers calculated the dashas manually they all knew how to go about it because in the earlier times every student of astrology had to do a rigorous course on the Jyotish ganit [ arithmetic of astrology ]. He, therefore,

did not elaborate the procedure to calculate the dasha. He did not talk about the dasha phal either. He did not have to elaborate on the dasha results because a huge amount of literature on the dasha phal is already available in old Sanskrit classics.

I have been using the 35year dasha chakra to study the Varsh Phal chart. I have intentionally chosen to use this 35 year dasha chakra for the Varsh Phal chart

only; because both the varsh phal chart and the 35 year dasha chakra system are exclusively Lal Kitab concepts and hence compatible with each other. While analyzing

the Janma Kundali I use the traditional Vedic astrology Vinshottari dasha system because these two are compatible; both of the traditional vedic origin.

Therefore in order to calculate the 35 year dasha chakra , I use the same method which is used for calculating the Yogini or the Vinsottari dasha systems. I calculate the 35 year dasha chakra based on the movement of the moon, or what is known in the traditional Vedic astrology as nakshtreeya [ of nakshatra ]. Those who are familiar with the Jyotish ganit [ arithmetic of astrology ] and know how to manually calculate the Yogini dasha or

the Vinshottari dasha , can work out the 35 year dasha chakra of the Lal Kitab within no time.

Those familiar with NC Lahiri’s ephemeris would know how to look up the starting point of the Vinshottari dasha from the table. Similarly a table can be made for the 35 year dasha chakra of the Lal Kitab. It took me a couple of hours to prepare a table for the 35 year dasha chakra of the Lal Kitab. Once you have the table it takes just a couple of seconds to get the starting point of the dasha.

The starting point of the Lal Kitab 35 year dasha cycle can be worked out very easily with the help of the excel sheet in the folder containing articles on LK grammar.

Since I go by the traditional method I have used the lunar year of 360 days. In olden time the dasha were calculated and mentioned in the horoscope in terms of Hindi month and Tithi and Samvat year. If you have a look at sixty or seventy year old horoscopes, you will notice that they do not even mention the English dates; the date of birth is mentioned according to Hindu calendar and the time of birth in ghati and pal.

In order to bring the Lunar year on par with the solar year a correction of 5 days per year has to be carried out while calculating the dasha to bring it on par with the English dates. Once this correction is carried out the dasha becomes compatible with the English dates.

In the table , if you notice , the balance of Jupiter’s dasha period at 0d-0m is 6 years and at 13d20’ it is zero. 13d20’ is the value of a nakshatra.

For example if the moon is at 8 degrees and 40’ in Leo then the balance of the Jupiter dasha yet to follow will be 6 days, 1 month and 2 years [ bhogyansh â€" hissa jo bhogana baqi hai] . In other words at the time of birth the native has already exhausted 24 days, 10 months and 3 years in his mother’s womb [ bhuktansh â€" hissa jo bhoga ja chuka hai ]

Of this bhogyansh 6 days and 1 month will be the Jupiter antardasha within the Jupiter dasha followed by the whole period of 2 years of the Sun’s antardasha within the Jupiter dasha.
