Dear Raheja ji,

Before I proceed to answer your queries let me point

out a mistake in the passage you have quoted.

It says : "shree" (Sun house no.5)

That is incorrect.

It should be “ shree†(Sun in house # 1)

[1942 urdu ed page 184 ; 1952 urdu ed page 1043 ]

I know it is a very minor typographical error, but it

is serious because at the first glace the mistake will

not even be noticed as the Sun is also associated

with house # 5 and the reader will pass over it assuming

that it could be correct. He will not even suspect

that there could be a mistake.

Now to your queries : This sentence: chatur sujaan, kaho ganga ra maa shree bhag vaan is a very common phrasal structure used intraining a parrot how to speak human language. There are quite a few variations of this phrasal structure like : mitthoo, kaho ganga ra maa shree bhag vaan or mitthoo, kaho ganga ra maa jaya siya raam and so on. In this context this phrasal structure exemplifies the concept of ‘aqla ki naqla’, the parrot mimicking the human language. The parrot will learn only thosephrases which he would be made to drill every day and that will be just a naqla. Talking purely in linguistic terms the aqla would mean the ability to generate more structure on its own; some thing Noam Chomsky calls ‘infinite structures from finite vocabulary’. In brief aqla is a human trait. Aqla ki naqla is not competent to generate structures therefore it is a non-human trait. That is the difference between insaan and haivaan, human and the beast [ A ] Let me now explain the three phrases which are not self explanatory: 35 : this number has a reference to the Dimaghi khane. Dimaghi khana # 35 signifies the house # 11 and is associated with Jupiter [ 1952 urdu ed page 988 ] the characteristics of this khana # 35 is the ability to remember. ‘ brahaspati ki naqla budh kundali ke khana # 11 mein hoga’ [ 1952 urdu ed, page 534 line # 4 ] Pat : the word has a reference to dimaghi khana # 2 signifying house # 2 and associated with Jupiter which has been described as peshani ka darwaja …quot; brahaspati se mushtarqa. The word pat also means dwaar/darwaja or a door apart from other meanings. [ 1952 urdu ed; page 983 ] Lat : the word has a reference to dimaghi khana # 13 signifying house # 10 and associated with Saturn. [1952 urdu ed, page 985 ].The word lat means the lock of hair [ Saturn ] and that could be the symbolic reason for using this word in the context of house # 10 and Saturn. The rest of the phrases are self explanatory and I do not have to go into them. [ B ] The effect of mercury in each house will be : Budh jis ghar mein baitha ho vahan baitha hua voh us grah ka asar dega jis grah ka ki voh khana pakka ghar mukarrar hai [ 1942 urdu ed , page 184 line 10-11 ] Where ever mercury is placed it will give the effect of the pakka house owner of that house. This is what the 35 of the parrot is all about [ C ] House # 9 is considered the place where the aqla ka beej [ the seed of pradatta vivek, insaani aqla ] germinates. That is what signifies the difference between insaan and haivaan , man and the beast. Mercury is an imitation of this seed aqla ki naqla. That is what separates the mercury from the 9th house. Aqla ka dayara of both insaan and haivaan are separate and it is this which separates the mercury from the 9th house. Once the mercury is separated from the 9th house on the basis of aqla ka dayara, the 9th house couldnot have been included in the alphabet of a parrot. [ D ] In principle I agree with the logic. If the 7th house is shared by both mercury and venus, so should the 8th house be by mars and the Saturn. God bless you Bhooshan Priya
