Respected Gill Saheb,

Lal Kitab follows the same system of aspects as

is followed in traditional Vedic astrology. It is the

effect of these aspects which has been treated

differently, although within the parameters of

the Vedic astrology.

In Traditional Vedic astrology a horoscope

is divided into two parts :

[a] Drashta Ardha [visible half]

From later half of the lagna till the later half of

the 7th house, through 12th,11th,10th,9th, and 8th,

is known as `drashta ardha' or `prakashit ardha'

e.g. the visible half or the lighted half. It is

because the Sun moves through these houses.

If the birth takes place at the time of sun rise the

sun will be in the lagna, if the birth takes place

at mid noon the sun will be in the 10th house and

similarly if the birth takes place at the sun set

the sun will be in the 7th house. Therefore the

journey of the sun is denoted in a horoscope

clockwise from the Lagna to the 7th house.

Therefore this part of the horoscope is known

as the `drashta half' the half which is lighted

and is visible. In the Lal Kitab these houses are

known as `baad ke ghar'

Adrashta Ardha [ invisible half ]

From the initial half of the 7th house till the

initial half of the Lagna through the 6th,5th,

4th,3rd,2nd is known as the adrashta ardha or

aprakashit ardha or invisible half or the

dark half. It is through these houses the Sun

travels after it sets. If the birth takes place at

midnight the sun will be in the 4th house. In the

Lal Kitab these houses are known as pahale ke ghar.

In the Lal Kitab Pt. Roop Chand ji interpreted

this horoscope division very logically in the

context of aspects. He divided the nature of

aspects into two parts commensurate with this

horoscope division.

Nature of aspects in the Lal Kitab :

[ A ] Aspect of assimilation [ budh ki milawat]

Lal kitab says that the planets placed in the pahale

ke ghar [ invisible half ] can have an aspect on the

planets or the houses of the baad ke ghar [ visible half ].

This is very logical. A person sitting in a dark room

can see some one outside in the light. This aspect

Pt. Roop Chand ji called as budh ki milawat or

an assimilation like that of sugar in the milk. The

two things get assimilated such that it becomes

impossible to identify them as separate. For

example a Jupiter placed in the 4th house

aspecting a Venus placed in the 10th house, apart

from the effect of Jupiter's aspect, will also result

in a combined effect of Jupiter + Venus

[ a Saturn of ketu nature ]

[ B ] Aspect of appendage [ mangal ki milawat]

Lal Kitab says that the planets placed in the baad

ke ghar [ visible half ] do not have an aspect on

the planets placed in the pahale ke ghar [ invisible half].

This statement should not be taken to mean that

there is no aspect of a planet placed in the later half.

By this statement the Lal Kitab meant that the aspect

will not be that of assimilation like that of sugar and

milk. Instead the aspect will lead to a combination as

if an artificial leg has been appended to an amputated

leg. Although the function is the same still the two

parts of the leg are independently visible. They do

not assimilate like the sugar and the milk. The artificial

leg, although one with the original leg, but still it is a

perceptible appendage or an add-on. In this case the

aspecting planet will have its own independent

identity also. This the Pandit ji calls Mangal ki milawat

These divisions of the nature of aspect is in keeping with

the principles of the Vedic astrology.

Just to prove that Pt. Roop Chand ji has not only accepted

the vedic astrology system of aspects, he has also used it .

There are many examples in the book, I am quoting just one:

Pandit Roop Chand ji says ,

Khana no. 4 : Chander ka ghar hai, is ghar ko

khana no. dus ke grah 100% nazar se dekhte hain.

Khana no.10 ka brahaspti nek nazar rakhega.

This line quoted above goes to prove that the planet

placed in the visible half not only have an aspect on

the planets/houses in the invisible half, even the percentage

of aspect remains the same. Yes the nature could be

different. Like in the example quoted a Jupiter placed in

its house of debility [ 10th ] when aspecting its house of

exaltation [ 4th ] will have benefic effects khana 10 ka

brahaspati nek nazar rakhega .

This aspect principle once again is in keeping with the

Vedic astrology tradition. According to the traditional

Vedic astrology, when a planet placed in debility aspects

its house of exaltation the results are beneficial; it is a

benefic aspect. If Venus placed in the 6th house [ a house

of debility ] aspects the 12th house [ a house of its exaltation]

the results are beneficial. Suppose the venus from the 6th

aspects a Mars in the 12th then the family life of the brother will

be benefited. The results will be reversed if a Venus placed

in the 12th aspects the 6th house. Suppose the Venus from

the 12th aspects a Mars in the 6th then the wife of the brother

or her family will suffer. Lal Kitab also follows the same

traditional Vedic astrology principle.

This is strictly our own logical interpretation of the

Lal Kitab rules of aspect.

Varun Trivedi
