In this case where the mercury is in the 2nd , a pakka ghar of Jupiter , the rain water or for that matter any water should not be kept in a utensil which could represent a mercury and therefore the use of sponge has been advised. This also makes sense because the moon is placed in the 12th , a house where mercury is in debility. Since the natural sea sponge will not be easily available, we believe that foam which doesn’t have a shape of mercury can be used for this upaya. We haven’t come across this sponge upaya for moon in the 1st house along with mercury in the 2nd house. Even if it were true, we fail to understand the logic. Could you please let us know why could the water in sponge upaya might have been suggested for Moon in the 1st house along with mercury in the 2nd house? With regards, Varun Trivedi
