Dear Kulbir bhai,

You are right.

In the 1942 urdu ed page 298 last line carried over to page 299, it says :

Budh ke teer ko mangal bud ka munh laga hai.

Therefore , in the 1941 ed, the word laga hai can be inserted in the space left with a long dash [ like the one we see for fill in the blanks exercises ].

The word is not sher, it is teer. The word budh ka teer makes sense because budh is associated with parvaaz and parinde. Since an arrow also flies through the air like parinde therefore it should be budh ka teer and not budh ka sher.

This mistake has brought out a very significant insight into the errors. It means that at times even the qatib, who was transcribing the hand written text on to the firma for litho printing, was not able to read what was written by Pandit ji. It is quite possible that a few mistakes got inserted due to this.

In the above case the qatib did the right thing by leaving a space by marking it with a long dash indicating that he has not been able to read what is written in the text. If a qatib uses his own discretion and adds a word then it would create a problem. That is what must have happened in the case of marlaj and murrabba. I suspect that the qatib misread the word marlaj as murabba and transcribed it as such.

Regards,

Varun
