Guest guest
Dear Kulbir Bhai, It is a tradition in Indian homes, specially Hindu homes, that bamboo is never used as a fuel wood in the kitchen. There could be two reasons for it. One, that the tikti, the platform on which a dead body is carried for cremation, is made of bamboo. Therefore burning bamboo would amount to re-enacting the cremation scene in the kitchen. In other words some thing that is burned at the time of cremation should not be burned ina flourishing household. It is considered bad omen. Secondly, talking about the Lal Kitab perspective, Bamboo is mercury, fire is Mars. The two put together form malefic saturn [ rahu swabhav]. Now no house holder would like to have malefic saturn in the kitchen which in the Indian psyche represents 'Barqat' prosperity. That is why in some temples the Aggarbatti burning is prohibited. The aggarbatti stick is made of bamboo. Would love to hear a different explanation from other experts.
