Dear Helen,

[ 1 ] Weight gain is associated with Rahu. Barley, wood charcoal,

lead [ a metal ] etc are the karak objects of Rahu. I suggest barley

because it is easily available.

[ 2 ] I advise to immerse barley in a river to distance the effects

of rahu. When the barley flows down the river away from you , it is

assumed that the effect has been distanced away.

[ 3 ] For the upaya of Rahu it is specifically mentioned that it

should be done after the sun set and before it gets dark. The time

after the sunset and before dark on a Thursday belongs to Rahu.

Hence the upaya is advised to be done on a Thursday.

[ 4 ] I also advise, at times, to immerse in a river a handful of

rice before immersing the barley. This is advised mostly in those

cases where the moon is weak in the horoscope.

You will understand it better with this analogy. When a red hot iron

is immersed in the water, the water not only gets hot , a part of it

gets evaporated also. In order to make up for the loss of water some

fresh water would have to be added.

Similarly when barley, a karak of Rahu, is immersed in the water

this could result in getting the water hot and a part of it

evaporated.

Therefore in order to supliment the loss of water [ symbolically

speaking ] a handful of rice is immersed in the water before

immersing the barley.

This becomes all the more necessary if the moon is already weak in

the horoscope.

Sincerely,

Bhooshan Priya
