Forms of upaya

Dear Bhullar ji,

Broadly speaking upaya can be categorized into EIGHT groups. Some

scholars might be devising a couple of their own forms also.

Form # 1 :

Destroying the planet for the year.

This form is used if a planet is badly placed and has to be got rid

off as a last resort. This is done by burying the karak of the

planet in a barren place. For example venus is very badly placed

then it is advised that a little jowar { millets } be buried in a

barren place.

A planet once destroyed can not be retrieved for that year.

Therefore one has to be careful about this upaya.

Form # 2 :

Distancing a planet :

This upaya is also commonly known as ‘sending the planet to the 4th

house’. This is done by immersing a karak object of the planet in

running water like a river. For example if the Mars is badly placed

then it is advised that a little rewari { a sweet made of til +

gur } be immersed in a river.

Form # 3 :

Changing the character of the planet from malefic to benefic:

For example the Rahu in the 5th is badly placed , then it is advised

that a small solid silver toy elephant be kept at home immersed in

ganga jal or rain water.

Form # 4

Establish a beneficial planet :

This is done to balance the Kundali. Suppose the moon is a

beneficial planet in the kundali, in order to take the maximum

advantage of moon it is advised to keep a handful of rice in the

North East corner of the house. If the rice is gifted by the mother,

all the better.

Form # 5

Establishing a friend between two enemy planets:

If there are two mutually enemy planets placed in a house if a

friend is established between them, the hostility diminished. For

example if Saturn and the sun are placed in the 6th house if we

establish mercury , a friend of both, the hostility between the san

and the Saturn will be diminished. Therefore keep a little sabut

moong in an earthen pot either in the basement or in the south.

Form # 6

Making a planet swear to be good :

This is done by offering the karak object of the planet at a temple.

It is believed that we make the planet to swear in the presence of

God to behave. If Mars is badly placed in the 8th, if we offer the

karak object of Mars at any temple, we would make Mars swear that it

will behave.

Form # 7

The maleficity of a planet to be consumed by its own karak :

If the mercury is misbehaving then it is advised to give sabut moong

{ mercury } to a goat { mercury} for eating. It is believed that

once the goat eats the sabut moong it will after consuming the

malefic aspect of the mercury will expel it as droppings.

Form # 8

Making use of the masnuee { artificial component } part of a planet:

Instead of using any of the above forms, at times it is advisable to

do the upaya of one of the masnuee { artificial component } parts.

For example if the Jupiter is badly placed in the 10th house it is

advised to drop into a river a copper coin each day for 43 days

regularly. The logic is that of the two masnuee components of

Jupiter venus would be quite comfortable in the 10th house, the

house of her beloved Saturn. It is the Sun which will be depressed

in that enemy house. Therefore if the Sun component of Jupiter is

taken away it will be relieved, hence dropping copper coins in a

river.

Dear Varun Ji

I would like to thank you on your excellent explanation of upaya. If

you could provide more insight on other topics of lal kitab also

from time to time that would really benefit us all. Thanks once

again.

Dear Sorabh ji,

This can not be a one way affair. This group is not for distance

learning. In order to gain from this group you also have to give

something in return, in the form of discussion. You are most welcome

to initiate a discussion on any topic from Lal Kitab with an opening statement

as to what are your views on that topic or what you understand about that topic.

Dear Mehrotra ji,

Except for the form # 1 and Form # 7 upaya all other upaya can be

Dear Varun Trivedi Ji,

I have a question regarding the first form of Upaya.

As you said that in first form, once the particular planet is

destroyed by burying in barren place, it can not be retrieved for that

particular year.

It means that if a person has a bad planet in his horoscope and if he

has performed such task (burying it in barren place), he need to

perform the same task year after year i.e whole life to keep himself

away from the malefic effect of that planet.

Is it true?

If yes, then what can be done to resolve this issue once for all (Not

doing it again and again every year)?

Dear Naveen ji,

What you appear to be talking about is the badly placed planet in

the janma Kundali and not about the Varsh Phal kundali. Normally the

upaya suggested are based on the Varsh Phal kundali and not the

janma kundali. It is only for problems which have been there for

years that the janma kundali based upaya are suggested, otherwise it

is the varsh phal kundali which is used for upaya.

If the upaya to bury some thing is suggested on the basis of Janma

Kundali , then it has to be repeated every year till you get rid of

the problem.

As far as the Varsh phal based upaya are concerned then it is rare

that a planet badly placed in one year would again be badly placed

in the next year. If it is badly placed again then quite possible

you might have to bury the karak object once again if the astrologer

so advises.

with regards,

Varun Trivedi

Dear Varun Ji

Following this on then - what would you recommend for those whos birth

charts have an ill placed planet which must be buried each year - but

suppose that very same planet is placed in a good position in the

annual chart. Should the item still be buried ? If not, then in that

case both annual and birth charts must be looked at together.

Dear Sorabh ji,

In general the upaya are suggested on the basis of the Varsh Phal

kundali. As I had said earlier, it is only in the case of a cronic

problem which has been there for years that the upaya based on the

janma kundali will be suggested. In this case if an astrologer

suggests to destroy a planet by burying its karak object, which is

rarely done, I doubt that the problem would continue for the next year

also. If it does, And the astrologer is absolutely certain that it is

because of the same planet and also certain that except for destrying

the planet for that year there is no other alternative, he might again

suggest to bury the item even if the planet may not be badly placed in

that year's varsh phal.

Such a decision is always taken after weighing and couterweighing the

results of such an upaya. If the astrologer feels that he can forego

the benefic results of that planet in the varsh phal because the

problem is more serious and has to be attended, he can get the karak

object buried once again.

But I do not think such a situation would arise year after year. If it

does, then it means the astrologer failed to identify the planet

responsible for the problem in the first instance.

Yes, the astrologer has both the kundalis, janma kundali and the varsh

phal kundali, infront of him while analysing any horoscope.

With regards,
