Many desire to know the combinations and positions of Planets to identify the profession of ¡Medicine¢ in a horoscope under Vedic astrology. Those who can read the Birth chart will know that the lord of 10th house, and those connected in any way with that 10th house from Lagna indicates profession. This is the most general rule followed by all astrologers. Some ancient treats had given the combination of Planets in a birth Chart of a natal, for Medical Profession: Varahamihra (general rule): The sun in Sagittarius ( Dhanush) can give medical profession. Vaidhyanatha (general rule): Saturn and Venus in the 10th House from the position of Moon in a birth chart can indicate Medical related position. Jathaka Parijatha (general rule): Mars and Mercury combination is an indicator for a native (from his birth Chart) to be in eloquent and clever in Medicine. Nadigrantha: It is said in this ancient scripture that the combination of The Sun, Mars, Saturn, and Rahu in 10th house, the native could be a dental/eye/physician/surgeon and also could be a specialist in treating poison related physical problems. Also, many authors opine the following Planetary positions and combinations could also indicate Medicine as profession for an individual: 1. If the lord of 10th house to Lagna in a ¡Janma Kundali¢, is positioned in ¡Navamsa¢ in Mithuna (Gemini) or Kanya (Virgo) or Vruchika (Scorpio) and in conjunction with Rahu, the profession could be Medicine. Explanation: The houses Gemini and Virgo lord is Mercury and Scorpio Lord is Mars. Mars is assigned to blood/surgery/healing/etc, and Mercury is assigned to intelligence/ability to analyze/processing/etc. Rahu is assigned to give pain, nursing/redemption/etc. 2. When the 10th lord is positioned in 12th house (hospitalization- bed - confinement) in Navamsa and that house is Vruchika (Scorpio) or Kanya (Virgo) or Mithuna (Gemini), then this career is indicated. 4. If Navamsa Lagna is aspected by Mercury and Rahu, (as Jamini says this) then the person will commit medicine in this career. 5. If the cusp of Lagna is in Terine or in Sextile to Mercury. These are the few could be listed, while there are many other combinations to indicate Medicine as career. We have to account the most favorable Nakshathras (asterisms) to the person choosing Medical profession: Aswani, Makam and Moolam ( the lord of these stars is Ketu). Further, the strongest Planet identified in a horoscope indicates the profession of that person, while that planet occupies any one of zodiacal points, then Medical profession is possible.
