Preamble to Rattha Sapthami : As previously posted ,

Sun was sojourning over Antarctica , Southern Half of

Pacific Ocean , South East Australia and New Zealand

on New Moon Day , Thursday , 07 Feb.2008 when

He was afflicted by Ascending Lunar Node (Raahu Grastha)

resulting in Annular Solar Eclipse. , while He was in Capricorn

(Makara Raasi) .

 

Now He has successfully overcome that obstacle and with effect

from Friday , 08 Feb. 2008 Sun is the witness to commencement

of Amavaasya-antha (ending with next New Moon Day, Friday,

07 March 2008) New Lunar Calendar Month , known as Maaggha

Maasam , refered to thus since Moon will be associated with Star

Maggha on Full Moon Day , Thursday , 21 Feb.2008.

Incidentally , Maaggha Maasam is 11th month of Linar Calendar

 

Sun is inching away from Capricorn (Makara Raasi) towards

Pisces (Kumbha Raasi)., which He will enter on Wednesday ,

13 Feb.2008 , which Day is also refered as Kumbha SankramaNam

(Kumbha Sankraanthi) , one of Twelve SankramaNams in an year. .

 

Wednesday , 13 Feb.2008 happens to be Seventh Day ( Sapthami )

of bright fortnight (Sukla Paksham) of afore mentioned Lunar Month

Maaggha Maasam , Holy Day Rattha Sapthami , when Sun's single-

wheel Rattham(Chariot) turns being pulled by Seven Horses (Rainbow)

auguring the soon to come Spring.

 

Rattha Sapthami is Aaarogya Sapthami , since Sun is giver of Health-

"Aarogyam Bhaaskaraath Iccheth"

 

Sun is The Prathyaksha Daovam since He gives Life to Earth ,

Health and is The Visible Evidence of God NaaraayaNa's Majesty,

Soorya NaaraayaNa.

 

Sun has Twelve Names ( DwaaDasa Aadithyas) – 1.Vishnu,2.Dhaatha,

3.Aryama,4.Mithra,5.VaruNa,6.Indra,7.Vivaswan,8.Poosha,9.Parjanya,

10.Anshumaan,11.Bhaga and 12. Thvashhtta .

Each Aadithya Presides over Five Types of Years – 1. Vatsaram, 2. Samvatsaram, 3.Anuvatsaram,4.Idaavatsaram and 5.Parivatsaram thereby completing a cycle of

Sixty Years from Prabhava to Akshaya. ( Shashtti Abda Poorthi )

 

Sun's Parents are Kashyap(F) and Adithi(M) , hence Sun is also known as

Kaashyapa and Aaadithya . He is bright hence also known as Soorya ,

Ravi and Bhaaskara.

Sun's consort is the daughter of Celestial architect Viswakarma and She goes by the name of Sanddhya , Chaaya , Usha and Badaba.

Sun's Paternal Grandfather is Mareechi Brahma and Sun's Thousand Rays are

Known as Mareechikas. . Sun's Maternal Grandfather is Daksha Prajaapathi.

 

Sun's progeny includes Sons – Shaneeswara , Yama DharmaRaaja , Vaivaswatha Manu

(Sraaddha Dev) and Celestail Physicians Aswini Twin Brothers ; and

Daughters Yamuna and Thapthi.

Sugreeva and KarNa are the sons of Divine Aspect of Sun God.

 

Sun is the presiding Deity of Savithru Soorya Mandal and is the Lord of Sauryam Branch

Of Sanaathana Dharma.

 

Sun is the Guru of Hanumaan and Yaajnavalky Rishi and He is the First to be Blessed with Bhagavad Geetha direct from Lord NaaraayaN.

 

Sun is preceded by 60.000 Vaalakhilya Munis who Extol Him by Chanting of Gaayathri

Manthra.

Take a bath with Jilledu ( Telugu Word ) Leaves on Head & Shoulders,

and offer Sweet Rice Pudding to Soorya Bhagawaan. Prasaadam.
