We are all aware of Western Calendar.

Year 2007 Anno Domini.

Originally Western Year started in March.

Julian and Gregorian Calendars made

changes and now the New Year begins

one vweek after Anno Domini.

The Western Months are named after

Roman Gods and Politicians.

1. JANUary is for God Janus - two faced,

probably a God to ward off

obstacles like Ganesha.

2. FEBRUary is for Purification .

Februa = Purification.

3. MARch is for God of War Mars.

Beware of Ides of March ( 15 th ).

4. APRIL is for Goddess Aphrodite-

Spring Beauty , April Showers.

5. MAY is for Goddess Maia , May Flowers.

6. JUNE is for God Junius.

7. JULY is for Julius Caesar.

8. AUGUST is for Augustus Caesar.

9. SEPTEMBER is Sept = Saptha = Seven,

original 7 th Month from March.

10.OCTOBER is Octo = Ashtta = Eight.

11.NOVEMBER is Nov = Nava = Nine

12.DECEMBER is Deca = Dasa = Ten.

 

What about Sanaathana Vaidika Almanac -

We need a PANCHAANGAM.
