I want to know in which days to perform the dharpanam in Mahalaya Amavasya days. Please brief about Mahalaya and its unique. Regards S.Raguraman. Note: Also i want to know Yama Dharpanam. In which day i will do.What is the unique on this also. Mahaalaya means Great event concerning our Ancestors. During these 15 days this year frm Sept 27 to Oct 11 All The Ancestors from Pithru Loka , Mahaa Loka , Jana Loka , Yama Loka etc come to visit Their descendents as Honored Guests ; They arrive with the permission of Yama Dharma Raaj. So to propiate the Pithrus They must be satisfied with Tharpanam ,Respectful Rememberance , Paying Homage and AANA DAANAM . This year evry day of fortnight is important but most important days are Sept. 27 , 29 and Oct 02,07,09,10 and 11. Yama Tharpanam is performed on second and third days after DeepaavaLi. Simplest way is after taking bath and before drying yourself , take black sesame seeds in your right hand and offer it saying " Swadhaanams Tharpayami " three times saying the names of your father, Grandfather,Greatgrandfather, Mother and Paternal Grandmother .Greatgrandmother and Maternal Grandparents.
