AATHREYA - Dr. Bala Krishna Murthy Ramaraju

RUSHYA SRUNGA , THE INNOCENT.

RushyaSrunga is the son of Vibhaandaka Muni

of Kashyapa Prajaapathi lineage and Chithrarekha.

RushyaSrunga lost His mother in early infancy and

hence knew only His father Vibhaandaka.

RushyaSrunga was born with a small horn-loke

Epidermoid Sebaceous Calcareous Projection

on His forehead , hence called RushyaSrunga;

Srunga=horn like ; Rushya = son of Rushi.

Ontogeny repeats Phylogeny - meaning - we

humans during our intra - uterine sojourn in our

Mother's womb , go through various stages of

evolution - we had gills like a fish and sometimes

they persist after birth as small openings on the

sides of neck known as BRANCHIAL CLEFTS;

we had tails which attenuate as a small Coccyx Bone ,

yet sometimes we may be born with a tail to wag.

In Utero we can swim like a fish

but we are helpless in waters after birth ; that is why

if swimming lessons are started very early on one can

become a very good swimmer. What distinguishes us

from our immediate ancestors , monkeys , is our

ability to oppose our thumbs to enable us to hold very

delicately - Prehension - which monkeys cannot do -

their thumbs are in the same plane as other fingers -

Simian hands. A milk line extends from middle of

Clavicle ( collar bone ) to middle of groin and some times

small nipple like appendages may appear along this

line ; all this shows that all of us humans share certain

common characteristics with other animals . So Be It.

Back to RUSHYA SRUNGA who was born with a small horn

on His forehead which sometimes is seen in humans.

RushyaSrunga 's fatherVibhaandaka is a widower and He

raised His son RushyaSrunga all by Himself without ever

exposing RushyaSrunga to any Feminine touch .

So RushyaSrunga even upto His adulthood has not seen

anyother human - male or female , and hence known as

RUSHY SRUNGA , THE INNOCENT. Gods liked His

innocence and oradained that where RushySrunga dwells there

shall be good seasonal rainfall and there shall be no famine.

King Dasaradha of Ayodhya had a daughter Shaantha who

was given in adoption to King Romapaada of Anga Desh.

Anga was stricken with famine whence Romapaada sent

courtesans to entice RushyaSrunga which they did in His

father Vibhaandaka's absence and brought Him to Anga..

When once RushyaSrunga stepped into Anga there were rains

and famine has abated . Romapaada gave his daughter

Shaantha in marriage to RushyaSrunga as per the old

armistice agreement between ParashuRaama and Dasaradha.

It was RushyaSrunga who presided over PuthraKaameshtti

Yajnam performed by Dasaradha .

RushyaSrunga and Shaantha lived happily everafter .

What a contrast in the way Vibhaandaka brought up His Son

RushyaSrunga and modern no secrets left out education.

Which is preferable ; probably a balance needs to be struck

and parents had to tread carefully while dealing with their

children's education and the way they are raised in this

modern world filled with Information Explosion.
