When VISHNU as MOHINI is distributing Amrutham, Kashyapa-Simhika's

sons RAAHU and KETHU were sitting along with Devathas - RAAHU

just drank Amrutham and as IT is still in his gullet MOHINi cut off His

head which survived as DRAGON'S HEAD ; KETHU also drank

Actually sir, last year when solar eclipse was happening, ZEE TV personal called one jyotishacharya from Haridwar.

he said so rubbish abt this normal things that Rahu and ketu are planets, and we have 9 planets in astrology.

and in solar eclipse Rahu surya ko kha jata hei , usko ye dikhane ke liye ki uski kuch value nahi hei..

this was so inscientfic approach to astrology. and the same thing is repeated by Shri Balakrishna.

 

I hope astrologers also look at the scientfic approach to prove astrology a science instead of a myth/ blind faith.

Dear Tarun and Sharat, What the doctor (with so many qualifications) is telling is not anything invented by him but rather what is well documented in all the Puranas. Regarding whether Puranas are stories pointing towards the higher truth or are literal is another context. But don't call the doctor unscientific because the astrology subject about which everybody is discussing here is not considered a science from scientific point of view, though we might be endorsing it as science. I guess you dont know that astrology is given a level of science all over the world and is proved by Amercian scientist that astrology works.

 

As Astrology is based on sun's spectrum i.e. seven colours. ( V I B G Y O R )

Regarding whether Puranas are stories pointing towards the higher truth or are literal is another context. But don't call the doctor unscientific because the astrology subject about which everybody is discussing here is not considered a science from scientific point of view, though we might be endorsing it as science.

Sir i was really scared to read your mail, firstly. As i thought you will scold me , if i am wrong.

 

Actually sir , when i saw that interview on tv, i was laughing alot too..

sir wht i know abt puranas was , the rishis were to give such a meaning to society which can be understandble by the people and it continues in forum of stories.meant common men were given such stories and real Rishis were granted their meanings by their seniors.

I try to explore this science in a technical aspects. As all planet give the reflection of sun's spectrum which is the main thing visible in rainbow / aura and the same thing is the colours which we are seeing all around us.

Dear Tarun

I laughed a lot after reading your mail - its not about the points, you all can keep discussing but the language used by the astrologer *Rahu surya ko kha jata hai* but then the similar language was used in the west earlier as *Rahu swallows the Sun*...and because he does not have a body, the sun slips out from the throat! Fascinating analogy about how one should not swallow more than what one can digest. Come to think of it, perhaps there is a deeper meaning behind those terms used in the puranas and that is what we should be aiming to achieve, to understand.

 

Secondly the word * 9 planets * is perfectly fine where the they used the forced definition of planet to mean *any body that has indicental and special powers to influence human affaurs*. Even Surya-graha as used in Vedic astrology is really not treated as a planet in the strict sense of the term used in astronoly but as a demi-god of sorts who has certain potentialities. Surya-devata is identified with Surya graha but is very different. Then there is Surya as Agni tattva devata which is an even higher concept and the planet Surya does not exist and is created from Surya as the tattva devata.

 

Therefore the point is the very defintions are not bounded but in the beginners level I agree with you that it has to be very scientific and clearly defined like all other subjects. In fact very few people even know that there are Rahu and Ketu for each of the other planets just as we have for the Moon. This is the future of Jyotish, the research that must come in at some stage in the future.

 

Sorry to butt in at this point if it has offended anyone, it was not meant to be so.

 

Please continue your discussions with respect to every soul realising that we are all at different points of the same continuum and while one may seem more advanced than another, it is only a question of temporary perspective as time is never the same all the time.

i felt extremely sorry for all of u taking deep

interest and criticising wat doctor has written about

rahu and ketu.

we all know that astrology is science but still all

astrologers are struggling to predict only past or

anylizing present situation.that too just prove the

cause of present situation or the past we all take the

support of lot of dashas,nakshatra, oocha nicha graha,

then shodasha varga and many more. no astrologer in

this word can preduct the future correctly. in my

opinion though it is a science lot of research work is

required in this stream. instead , to prove correct

take help of different dashas and many astrological

aspect. here my intention is not to hurt any one but

at the same time v have no right to hurt some

one,thinking we r master in this science.

once again i apolozise for my comments and feel sorry

if i hurt feeling of my respected gurujan.

i hope all respected gurujan will forgive me for my

mistake and allow me to be in this forum.
