AATHREYA - YAMA DHARMA RAAJA ( PLUTO )

YAMA is the Lord of South ( Dakshina Dikh Paalaka).

YAMA lives in SAMYAMINI ( Hades ) on the Banks of

River VaitharaNi ( Styx )

YAMA is the son of Soorya and younger brother of Sani.

YAMA loves His sister Yamuna and on Yama Dwitheeya

visits His sister with presents and so we must visit our

Sister on that day , present her with new clothes , Pasupu,

Kunkuma , Flowers and eat food prepared by Sister =

Bhagini Hastha Bhojanam . Yama Dwitheeya comes on

the second day after DeepaavaLi ( Diwali ) = festival of

Lights. No need to be afraid of YAMA ; He is Dharma

Raaja , most impartial and Lord of Humane Justice.

HE appeared before Saavithi and gave back her

husband's life.

YAMA obeyed the mandate of SHIVA and spared the

life of Maarkandeya.

When a five year old boy Nachiketha was banished by

his father to Yama Lok , YAMA treated Nachiketha with

affection, revealed the secrets of life and death and

blessed nachiketha with Long life and sent the boy back

to his father .

YAMA is a benevolent God , Dark complexioned and rides

on a black buffalo and never does any harm to any one

until one's time for the End. CHIRON ( ChithraGuptha ) is

the principal scribe of YAMA and keeps a faithful record of

everyone of us ,good things and bad things, to be put before

YAMA DHARMA RAAJA when the time comes; no wonder

KAALA (Time) is another name for YAMA DHARMA RAAJ.
