Guest guest
Neville, Thanks for the info. There appears to be major differences in reported times. ie. below you quote BBC News as stating the tsunami hit Colombo at 8:30am. I have just looked at Digitalglobe's Quickbird aerial photos for Kalutara near Colombo. Here the photo shows the impact, and the quote is that it was taken shortly after impact at 10:20am local time. This seems a more likely time due to the distance from the earthquake zone. As Kalutara is on the other side of Sri Lanka the first wave may have initially bypassed the West Coast before recoiling and doing the damage. Here are extracts from a report about the train the 'Queen of the Sea' on which over 800 people died on the East Coast of Sri Lanka 'The train left Colombo at 7:30 a.m. for Galle, 70 miles to the southeast, a resort with large hotels and beaches sought by weekenders. The water struck at 9:30 a.m. ' " The people in the village ran toward the train and climbed on top of it, " he said. " Then the water level went down " a telltale sign of the approaching tsunami, which sucks up coastal waters before it strikes. " Ten minutes later, it came back, " he said. http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=366542 & CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312. So here we have a near confirmation of the 9:25am time (Sorry I had a typographical error in my original mail of 9:45am - the transit Asc was shown for 9:25am). Note that the effect of the Tsunami was felt 10 minutes BEFORE the tragedy at 9:30am ie. 9:20am. This EXACTLY corresponds with transit Asc aspecting radical MC at 16 Taurus 23'01 " and hence suggests that the Sri Lankan chart is correct .
