Imus settles with CBS: next, a comeback?

Don Imus has been in the news recently and his chart has some

interesting features and contradictions worth exploring. For those

not familiar with Imus, according to Rodden's Astrodatabank he is an

" American radio personality, particularly noted for hosting talk shows

in his inimitable provocative, often offensive style. " It should also

be noted that he has been extensively involved in charities for

children through a ranch that he runs for children with cancer and the

siblings of children who have died from SIDS.

The functional malefics are Rahu, Ketu and Mercury; the Most Malefic

Planet. The functional benefics are Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, the

Moon and the Sun.

 

Imus has had a checkered career of both incredible success followed by

firings. Earlier in his career he was terminated on a couple occasions

due to substance abuse problems. He was fired in April of this year

after making some sexist and racist comments about a women's college

basketball team.

 

Just before his dismissal Imus had signed a five-year $40 million

contact. Imus sued his employer for $40 million USD for breach of

contract which was subsequently raised to $120 million to account for

the remaining contract and damages. Today, he and his former employer

reached a settlement for an undisclosed amount.

 

In this chart we should expect to see three significant indications:

1) a tremendous career-related income, 2) some equally significant

setbacks to career and income and 3) several lawsuits.

 

The tremendous career income can be seen from an exact conjunction and

close influence upon the 11th MEP by two planets. Debilitated Saturn,

the 3rd lord of communications and Jupiter, the 5th lord of creative

intelligence and showmanship, are exactly conjunct in the 7th house

of the public in close conjunction with the MEP.

 

Saturn closely aspects the MEP of the 9th house of good fortune

wherein the lagna lord Venus is placed giving a boost to Venus who

otherwise retains 80% strength in mild infancy. Additionally, Saturn

closely aspects the 1st house of self and 4th house of assets.

Jupiter closely aspects the MEPs of the 11th house of income in the

royal sign of Leo, the 1st of self in the affluent sign of Libra and

its own mooltrikona 3rd house of communications.

 

As if that combination alone was not enough, his Mars is in the royal

sign of Cancer conjunct the 10th house MEP from which it aspects the

1st of self, 4th of assets and 5th of intelligence/showmanship. The

weakness of the Moon, as dispositor, prevents the income and career

from being protected, however. Note how Mars' energy, turned negative

by the exact affliction of Ketu from the 6th, brings the biting and

often caustic style to his radio performances through its aspects to

the 1st and 5th houses.

 

Finally, the 10th lord of career, the Moon is closely conjunct with

the 5th house MEP from which it aspects the 11th of income. It is in

old age and retains just over 20% of its power, however.

 

It's interesting to note that, after some very menial jobs following

his honorable discharge from the Marines, Astrodatabank indicates that

his luck changed in 1968. According to Wikipedia the date was June

28, 1968 just six weeks after the start of his Venus subperiod which

began in May of that year. Recall that Venus is the lagnesh of his

Libra ascendant, is well-placed in the 9th house of good-fortune and

its house of placement gets the beneficial MEP aspect of Saturn who is

involved in a yoga with Jupiter.

 

By 1971 his battle with alcohol was getting the better of him and he

was missing work and was fired. At this time, he was running the dasa

of Mercury which closely afflicts his Sun and signifies vices and

intoxicants as well as loss of career income This was likely during

his Sun subperiod and his Sun is conjunct the MMP Mercury in the 10th

house of career. The Sun signifies income as the 11th lord so the

close affliction of Mercury to the Sun indicates the potential loss of

income and career during the subperiods of the Sun, Mercury and the

Moon; which disposits the affliction.

 

It is also important to note that the nodes closely afflict the MEPs

of all of the even-numbered houses including the Mooltrikona houses of

Mercury and the Moon. Additionally, Ketu exactly afflicts Mars from

the 6th house of disputes and litigation. As Mars is located in the

10th house of career it is shows the " offensive " radio show

personality, repeated employment terminations and litigations. The

Lets take up a couple of the lawsuits. He divorced his first wife in

1979 during a Saturn subperiod. Saturn is disposited by Mars who is

exactly afflicted by Ketu from the 6th house of disputes/litigation.

 

In 1998, during a Rahu subperiod he was sued for libel.

 

On November 29, 2004 he was sued for wrongful termination and

defamation by a nanny he employed. This was during another Saturn

subperiod like the timing of his first divorce.

 

Only July 8, 2005 he was sued for slander and civil assault by a

doctor following a confrontation on Imus' property. This occurred

during a Mercury subperiod.

 

His charities for children is uniquely seen through the Jupiter/Saturn

combination again. Saturn is the 5th lord of children and Jupiter is

the karaka for children. The combination occurs in the 7th house of

the public.

Imus is currently running a Mercury subperiod until October of this

year. As Mercury closely afflicts the Sun, it signifies a loss of

career income so the trends aren't very good for a comeback.

 

In October of this year, Imus goes to a Ketu subperiod for over one

year. As Ketu exactly afflicts Mars in the 10th of career it would

appear that litigations/disputes would continue on the career front.

No improvement is seen.

 

Following this Ketu subperiod, Imus begins the Sun dasa in December

2008. This will activate the affliction of Mercury to the Sun in the

10th house of career and signifies the loss of the career. Could the

Sun be setting on Imus' career ? (bad pun intented!)

 

My bet is that, yes, you are going to see the last of Imus if you

haven't already because the Sun dasa also activates the affliction to

the Moon's 10th house of career by Ketu from the 6th of

disputes/litigation.

 

Thus, Imus will run the subperiods of five planets in succession;

Mercury, Ketu, the Sun, the Moon and Mars each of which signifies the

seperation and loss of career and these periods continue through 2010.

A few years out of the public eye might just as well be an eternity

for an " entertainer " and more than enough to kill any career.
