Lords of 6, 8, and 12 houses containing a mooltrikona sign are functional

malefics. Ra and Ke are always malefic.

Functional malefics

Dear Members,

I am a student of astrology and want to understand the logic behind

the following:

1. The Lords of 4,7,and 10 are functional benefics if the planets

themselves are natural malefics, and they become functional malefics

if they are natural benefics.

I can understand a natural malefic becoming a functional benefic in

the above case, but am not able to understand that how a natural

benefic (like Jupiter in Gemini ascendent)becomes a functional

malefic by this logic?

I would be obliged if the learned members can clear this doubt.

Respectful regards

Dr. Tuli

Dear Dr. Narendra Tuli,

You seem to be mired in the confusion of classical vedic astrology. I

highly recommend learning Systems' Approach techniques.

As Vyas wrote earlier, the lords of the 6th, 8th, and 12th houses

containing the mooltrikona sign are treated as functional malefics

under the Systems' Approach. Rahu and Ketu are always functional

malefics. All other planets are functional benefics. Functional nature

is a unique entity, and has no relation to whether a planet is a

natural malefic or a natural benefic. The former has no real relevance

in predictive astrology.

In the example you've given, Jupiter would be treated as a functional

benefic for Gemini ascendant as its mooltrikona sign falls in the 7th

house. Kendradhipati dosha is completely irrelevant and meaningless.

Similarly, natural malefics owning kendra houses do not suddenly

become more benefic as a result of just that. Any planet would be

treated as a functional benefic if it owns a kendra house, as they are

good houses, along with any other non-dusthana house.

I hope this clears your confusion.

Best wishes in your learning,

Arun Rao
