Paper signing (esp in Vedic marriages) is a relatively new concept. Job - contract signing is the usually considered start point. However, we've seen in mundane astrology that papers are signed after, but the start time is the moment one accepts the position/proposition at an earlier time. I reckon if you make it clear in your mind beforehand, that nothing is sealed till the ink is on the paper, then this is the moment you check from.
