Due to the functional nature of dhustana houses, 6,8,12, a planet transitting these houses is faced with challenges (loss,expenditure, tensions, debt, illness, obstacles etc.) thereby weakening it's ability to protect it's significations as it's busy with the darker sides of life. So if there are other factors in the chart, like a strong natal or strong transit influences then disturbances can be worked through or ameliorated. Also, remedies make a big difference. A spiritual nature in general certainly pulls people through challenges. Hope this helps. Twelfth house is a malefic house in essence and signifies losses, expenses, distance, separation, hardships, hospitalisation, etc. In case the lord of any other planet goes to the twelfth house in the natal chart the significations of the said house are subjected to the significations of the twelfth house during its sub periods. I understand that this would be over-simplifying the significations of the houses in respect to their transitory lords. Its those basic concepts, such as this, which I would lke to be sure about. Also, would Mars strength as a planet play a significant role in securing the significations of its houses, when it transits the twelfth house? If so, then it would override the malefic effects of the twelfth house, leaving us only aspects and afflictions to interpret. Hope I am not going around in circles.
