Rules for Immersing Objects in Water

Dearest Priya ji,

As I read through the advice you generously offer to all group

members, I get clarification as to how the uppayas are meant to be

done. I have a few questions:

1. I had initially done several uppayas which required immersing

something in the water (including the immersing of the copper snakes

on a Sunday). Until recently, I did not know that one should not

throw it in the water, but manually do it. However, I was not aware

of that and when I done my uppaya, I had (with a prayer in my heart)

thrown the thing over a bridge making sure it fell into the water

which it did. Please let me know if that is okay? Of course, from now

on I will be doing any and all immersion by my hands itself.

2. Prior to doing the immersion, I had placed the object (rice that

had been soaked in milk since I was away from my home in the midst of

an uppaya)in a plastic bag to ensure that it did not fall out. As I

did not before that one cannot immerse anything else with the object,

please let me know if this is okay. I had done this uppaya a few

months ago.

3. When one does not have access to a water-body (canal, river, sea)

is there an alternative place where I can do the immersing uppaya?

As always, many many thanks Priya ji.

Humbly,

Neena
