Determination of Benefic, Malefic and Asta planets

I am a beginer and have been drawn by the attention and the talk

after astrology was introduced as a subject for education.

 

While determination of benefic and malefic planets is something that

I have been able to understand (rudimentary level), the concept of an

asta planet has not been clear to me. Would some group members be

kind enough to oblige and explain.

If some books can be suggested so that this aspect becomes clear,

then I would try to read them up.
