Open question:

Does Lal Kitab at all to the Vaastu Shastra ( and, by extension, Feng Shui) notions of the importance of placement and direction in one's affairs? According to those two disciplines, the directions one faces while at a desk, sleeping, cooking, worshiping, etc. can make a huge difference in one's affairs. Does any of that have any resonance whatsoever in Lal Kitab?

Thanks,

Colin Yardley

Mr. Yardley and Friends,

Although Vaastu Shastra has been around for a long long time, the classical Vedic astrologers hardly ever talked about it. It has come into common use fairly recently; I'd guess, in the last 15-20 years.

Surprisingly, LalKitab has always had a chapter or two on "makaan kundali" (House Chart) where it discusses various directions, and where things are kept in the house and so on. I am not at all knowledgeable in Vaastu/Feng Shui and therefore, unable to comment on the similarities or differences between these and LalKitab. Pt Roop Chand Ji always verified the horoscope by identifying the type and the direction of the house, the types of trees in it or around it, where the source of water was located etc. and he used to advise people on what changes to make in to the house etc. He even drew one's horoscope from one's house. I have heard that he had started writing a book on this topic which unfortunately, was never completed.

Spread throughout the LalKitab you will find precautionary measures to consider about one's dwelling. The 1952 edition has a couple of brief chapters exclusively devoted to this topic but unfortunately, many things need further explanation and research.

Respectfully,
