Guest guest
Hello Friends, It is very good news for this forum that Mr. Virender Joshi has joined this group. I also welcome him. Again, it is a great news that he is going to develop a website on this subject in near future. I hope that website will serve as one stop source of all Lal Kitab learning needs. As far as my request regarding books and resources, I myself start first. I know following books available - 1. Arun Samhita (Hindi) 2. Lal Kitab - Prishthabhoomi aur vyakhaya (Hindi & English) by Pt. Kirishna Ashant 3. Probably - Lal Kitab ke Totke aur yoga by Pt. Dhanvantari There are lots of books on Lal Kitab based remedies but none of them helps in understanding true spirit of Lal Kitab. Hope other friends will come forward and let us know books and resources available with them. Thanks and Regards, Punit --- " Rajinder Bhatia <rajinderbhatia2002 " <rajinderbhatia2002 wrote: > > Friends, > > I wish to extend a very warm welcome to Mr. Virender > Joshi > (VJOSHI2000) to this forum. Guest guest
Friends, Based on popular demand, I reproduce reviews of various Lal Kitab based books that are available in the market place. I know that the reviews sound somewhat harsh but the fact remains that most of these people have their own ax to grind. I look forward to your comments. Incidentally, these books are available not only from Mr Goyal as mentioned by Mr Pandey but you can also get them at various places on Nai Sarak - Ratan and Company, Dehati Pustak Bhandar and Ranjan Publications in Darya Ganj (Ranjan Pubs are into astrology books) But as Mr Pandey so rightly forewarned you, be careful in what you buy. Look at a few pages, read a couple of paragraphs at random and see if these make sense. Otherwise, the shopkeepers will give you much more than what you want (at a price to be paid by you.) Respectfully, Rajinder Bhatia Pt Ashant's book, " Lal Kitab Jyotish – Prishtbhoomi and Vyakhya. ********************************************************************** Many years ago, Pt Krishan Ashant (now a self styled, " Jyotish Samraat " and " Daivaigya Maharshi Lal Kitab " ) co-authored a chapter in a book titled " Saat Musaafir " with the famous Amrita Preetam in which both of them showered choicest praise on Pt Roop Chand Joshi, the creator of Lal Kitab system, and rightfully so. Pt Joshi deserves all the praise and much more. However, on becoming an independent Lal Kitab author, and conferring self-congratulatory titles to himself, Pt Ashant has changed his tune. In the book under review, he has made ludicrous and illogical claims about the origins of Lal Kitab and Pt Joshi. The book starts off with putting Pt Joshi down based on a meeting with a former disgruntled neighbor and disciple of Pt Joshi. The motive behind this criticism seems to be self-serving. Pt Ashant wishes to project his own self as the greatest source of Lal Kitab knowledge. In any event, Pt Ashant, though starts very enthusiastically, wastes many precious pages trying to explain the background of Lal Kitab system, but his power of exposition fizzles out miserably. Similarly, his attempt to explain the rationale behind remedial measures (upayas) of Lal Kitab does not succeed in convincing the reader. Many important topics from the original books have been ignored. These will perhaps be used as material for his forthcoming books. Numerous chapters, like other Lal Kitab " help books " , have been faithfully copied from Lal Kitabs, verbatim, no explanation offered. We would have expected for the " Lal Kitab Maharshi " to do a little better than that. To the dismay of a novice reader, the author does not address the topic of how best to use Lal Kitab method for analyzing a horoscope. Pt Roop Chand's examples could have been unabashedly copied for the benefit of the readers (like many other Lal Kitab " experts " have done.) If you hoped that Pt Ashant, an accomplished writer and a philosopher, would explain the verses from Lal Kitab, (the toughest part of Lal Kitab) you are in for disappointment. Despite all the criticism, this is not a bad book to have in your library. The book has hardly any typographic errors. Though benefic and malefic effects have been intertwined, yet one can get a fairly detailed description of each planet in each house. Ashant has given numerous remedial measures of his own making, which in our opinion could be somewhat risky. In the absence of the genuine Lal Kitab, this would be an acceptable substitute. It is better than whatever else is available in the market place today. NOTE: Pt Ashant has been churning out books like Lagna Darshan (in multiple parts) I am not impressed at all because there is a little bit of Lal Kitab and rest is mostly " khichRi " and hodgepodge mixture of all kinds which will not help you in learning astrology. It will make Pt Ashant rich, no doubt. LAL KITAB By KISAN LAL SHARMA – Publishers: Manoj Pocket Books, Delhi This book is somewhat on the same lines as the previously reviewed book. While discussing the origin of Lal Kitab, however, he comes up with a bizarre theory; we wouldn't want to waste our time describing that here. Pt Sharma, like all others, has reproduced all the Lal Kitab tables faithfully. He perhaps does not understand the significance of these tables, therefore no explanation is offered. Strangely enough, he offers the same examples that Pt Ashant does. I wonder who stole whose thunder. Planetary effects in each house have been discussed in brief. He seems to drift away from the actual Lal Kitab based phalaadesh (planetary effect) and mixes it up with other schools of thought. There are far more remedial measures in this book than in any other book of its kind. And he recommends these en masse. Most of these remedial measures seem to be the figments of Pt Sharma's imagination. Be forewarned; you perform these at your own risk. For example, he suggests that when Venus is in the twelfth house, a ghee diyaa should be lit in the house everyday. May be he is right. However, if one's Mercury is debilitated, then this is going to start a new set of problems (Mercury related.) You can buy this book as long as you know when to perform which remedial measure. BOOKS TO AVOID AT ALL COSTS Lal Kitab in Two Parts by Swami Keshavanand Published by Sadhna Pocket Books, Delhi-7 This could have been a true copy in Hindi, of the 1952 Lal Kitab. However, the book has so many errors and omissions that it is unreadable, inaccurate and makes no sense at all. The fault lies with the publishers who took no pains to proofread the material. Therefore, stay away from this book. In reality, this is an unauthorized reproduction of the transliteration that Pt Chandra Shekhar Vaid of Ambala City had done for his personal purpose. He let a few of his friends who were interested in learning Lal Kitab, copy the Hindi transliteration. At places, Pt Vaid had inserted his own comments and explanations in his notes, and this Keshavanand edition has faithfully reproduced these also. However, he claims to have brought it from the Himalayas. Ridiculous. Stay away from this. ARUN PUBLICATIONS He claims that Arun, the chariot driver of Ravan while leaving Lanka, brought Lal Kitab with him (and perhaps handed it over to " Dr Arun " .) They have published at least three of the Lal Kitab transliterations and every single one of them is worse then the other. Sentences are missing, words are misspelled so that the meanings have changed. Various illustrations, specifically to do with palmistry have been either not shown or, if they are shown at all, then these are thoroughly amateurishly drawn (as if a seven year old baby drew these.) And unabashedly, they claim to be doing " ..more research and attempting to bring forth the knowledge " . Translated, this means as soon as we are able to transliterate, we will bring it to you in such a hurry that we won't even care to proofread the book. Take a look at any of the Arun Sanhita books, read a paragraph and you will agree with me. Stay away from this peace of garbage. OTHER LAL KITAB KE TOTAKAY TYPE BOOKS: The name alone tells you how much respect these people have for Lal Kitab. They are in to make a quick buck or two by trivializing the vast and complex subject of Lal Kitab into a table of few upayas (or ToTakaa.) You will not learn Lal Kitab jyotish from these books. And the remedial measures, God help you with that part. Our advice: Stay away, regardless of how low priced these books are.
Guest guest
Hello Friends, It is great that I received response from Mr. Bhatia. I hope that I will get more responses from other learned/learning astrologers of this group. It is very important to know what books and resources are available otherwise everyone has to start from scratch. Thanks once again to Mr. Bhatia. But I think that Mr. Bhatia's review of books will make Lal Kitab student more confusing. It is not clear that what books should one buy? What are beginner, intermediate and advanced resources available? How to start learning this great system of astrology? Knowing it is very important to create some basis of discussion. I request all my friends to come forward and tell us regarding this. I request Mr. Bhatia and other learned member of this group to write a guide map for learning Lal Kitab, if possible. Thanks & regards, Punit Pandey Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Sign up now. http://mailplus.
