Dear PVR Ji,

Namaskar,

As we know according to Hindu Panchang a tithi prevails from one Sunrise to next Sunrise.

When I wanted to find out a tithi taking help of Jhora version 7.33 alpha, I found that even before Sunrise of the day the tithi is shown as the same day tithi which according to me it should not be.

For example Sun rises at 6-9-38 on 6 Apr 2009 .The tithi on this day is Shukla Dwadasi which should run till the time of Sunrise at 6-8-31 on 7 Apr 2009.

When I cast the chart taking birth time at 05:30 hrs then also it shows tithi as Shukla Trayodasi in place that of Dwadasi.

I think it should not happen.

Hope you may need to rectify this problem. Am I correct Sir ?

Regards

Ramesh Mishrarcmastro

Hello Hemant Ji,

I disagree with you. Same tithi continue frome one Sunrise till the following day Sunrise.

The tithi running at the time of Sunrise will continue for Muhurat or any auspicious event till the following day at Sunrise , even tithi changes but the rising thithi will continue whole day.

Regards.

Namaste,

The tithi running at sunrise is used for the entire day by laymen for convenience of remembering which day is which tithi.

However, the exact time a tithi changes is based on Sun-Moon angle and has NOTHING to do with sunrise.

While weekday changes at sunrise, tithi, yoga, karana and nakshatra may change at different times of the day. There is no bug.

Dear Ramesh ji,

Vriddhi tithi will be on two successive days .

Please read the following.

The tithis are counted from the 1st of the bright half or shukla paksha. The sun's conjunction with the moon coincides with the 30th tithi or the amavasya. When the moon overtakes the sun,but lies within it's 12 degrees, it is the 1st lunar date of the shukla paksha. At 180 degree separation, with the moon opposed to the sun ,it is the 15th of the shukla paksha, called as poornima. From here onwards starts the krishna-paksha, or the darker half. The tithis here again start from 1st and goes upto the 15th or the amavasys, when the moon and the sun conjoin.A tithi that is operating at the time of sunrise, on a particular day is the tithi operating on that whole day. Tithi is extremely important in performing day to day rituals and in electional astrology. Vriddhi or additional tithi: A tithi that extends from before sunrise on one day to after sunrise on next day is called as vriddhi tithi. such a tithi operates on successive two days. Kshaya or omitted tithi: A tithi that begins after sunrise and ends before sunrise on next day is called as kshaya or omitted tithi. This tithi is supposed to miss operation during that lunar cycle.

This is apart from explanation given by Chi. Narasimha.
