Dear B. Lakshminarayana,

I just followed your instructions and changed my computer time to the Time Zone

for Atlantic of 4.0 (it should be 5.0) and deselected " change time zone

automatically. " As you said, it worked to show the correct time on my computer

of 4:56 PM and on JHora, the time is also now correct at 16:56 PM.

I was unable to install the update that Narasimha just released. I received a

message that " an error occurred while trying to replace the existing file. " Code

5.

But your method does work, and my confidence is now restored in the JH accuracy

since it now tracks with other programs that I have adjusted to the correct

time zone or subtracted an hour to compensate for another program that was set

for Time Zone 5 but also did not integrate the March 8 Time Zone change in the

US. Thank you for sharing this simple technique.

Regards,

Janna

Moreover, the clock on your computer must be showing the current time correctly

in eastern daylight saving time. JHora simply takes the time from your

computer. There is nothing for me to fix here. Best regards,

Dear Sharat:

I think what you mean by " parallel desktop " is the same as the MacIntel laptop,

which I have, partitioned with Windows.

RE: Your comment on saving the chart files. In 2006 when I installed JHora 7.1,

it was placed in a file on my C drive, called Jyotisha, and it remains there.

However, when I installed 7.32 and again reinstalled it today, it is now

apparently in a separate file, which the Wizard created for me. But my old chart

files are still present in the new 7.32.

You said: > You should be able to uninstall all Jhora components yet can save

the charts, do that by copying the chart data from C drive on win XP and

saving it on the Mac drive/USB.

All that I could find in the Jyotisha file was a data file that showed 10 KB. I

do not see any other file that could house the chart data in either that file

folder or JH. If I could recognize the right file, then I could copy it to my

backup flash drive.

It would probably be optimal to deinstall all JH files, but at this point, I

think I will just work with the 7.32 version. I could not install the update

Narasimha just released either, but by adjusting the computer time (or tricking

it somehow)according to another suggestion, the computer time and the JHora time

are now in synch.

It appears that if UK time change is April 1, then you may also have to adjust

JHora similarly.

But thank you for your suggestions. It is nice to meet other " Mac Jyotishis " on

the list!

Warm regards,

Janna

Dear B. Lakshminarayana,

I just followed your instructions and changed my computer time to the Time Zone for Atlantic of 4.0 (it should be 5.0) and deselected "change time zone automatically. " As you said, it worked to show the correct time on my computer of 4:56 PM and on JHora, the time is also now correct at 16:56 PM.

I was unable to install the update that Narasimha just released. I received a message that "an error occurred while trying to replace the existing file." Code 5.

But your method does work, and my confidence is now restored in the JH accuracy since it now tracks with other programs that I have adjusted to the correct time zone or subtracted an hour to compensate for another program that was set for Time Zone 5 but also did not integrate the March 8 Time Zone change in the US. Thank you for sharing this simple technique.

Namaste,

I am glad you guys have figured out a way to make the computer give the correct

time to JHora.

However, if you try JHora 7.33 alpha, it will work irrespective of all those

settings.

I just downloaded it and installed it. It went fine. I wonder if there was a

temporary problem on the server.

Thanks,

Narasimha

Moreover, the clock on your computer must be showing the current time correctly

in eastern daylight saving time. JHora simply takes the time from your

computer. There is nothing for me to fix here. Best regards,

Dear Jenna,I had anticipated problems in day light saving time module. This happened because of changing day light saving time in USA by one month, in fact from April it would have got corrected on its own. So hopefully it wont happen here.I will wait before installing the latest version, making sure it remains stable, as this is the only programme I use. Your charts are stored in Jyotisha folder and ' data' sub folder, you can copy them from there easily. It is possible that you have 2 folders of same name.Regarding Mac, ' Parallel' is the software we use for Win XP, hence called ' parallel desktop'. I am not too happy using it as it as the chart size appears quite small, esp on my 13" black notebook. I did ask Narsimha if there was anyway we could just use one chart view. Probably a Mac version of Jhora will help. All the bestSharatOn 11 Mar 2009, at 21:27, Janna Lynn wrote:Dear Sharat:I think what you mean by "parallel desktop" is the same as the MacIntel laptop, which I have, partitioned with Windows.RE: Your comment on saving the chart files. In 2006 when I installed JHora 7.1, it was placed in a file on my C drive, called Jyotisha, and it remains there. However, when I installed 7.32 and again reinstalled it today, it is now apparently in a separate file, which the Wizard created for me. But my old chart files are still present in the new 7.32. You said: > You should be able to uninstall all Jhora components yet can save the charts, do that by copying the chart data from C drive on win XP and saving it on the Mac drive/USB.All that I could find in the Jyotisha file was a data file that showed 10 KB. I do not see any other file that could house the chart data in either that file folder or JH. If I could recognize the right file, then I could copy it to my backup flash drive. It would probably be optimal to deinstall all JH files, but at this point, I think I will just work with the 7.32 version. I could not install the update Narasimha just released either, but by adjusting the computer time (or tricking it somehow)according to another suggestion, the computer time and the JHora time are now in synch. It appears that if UK time change is April 1, then you may also have to adjust JHora similarly. But thank you for your suggestions. It is nice to meet other "Mac Jyotishis" on the list!Warm regards,Jannahttp://seven_directions.tripod.com/jhora , Sharat Misra <gidoc wrote:>> Hi Janna,> I agree with you that parallel desktop is a much better option than > crossover, so no point going there.> It seems that there was a problem during your installation process.> You should be able to uninstall all Jhora components yet can save the > charts, do that by copying the chart data from C drive on win XP and > saving it on the Mac drive/USB.> I downloaded Jhora on Mac, dragged the zipped folder to My documents > on WinXP and then installed it. Dear Narsimha,Namaskar,Thanks for the latest version. Is this just an update which will bolt on to the previous version or will this be a fresh install?I also wanted to check with you that while using Mac, we get really small sized dual chart views. Is there anyway we can use only a single chart display instead of 2 charts style, I have tried using' single' style but 2 charts always show up.Regarding Ayanmsa, which one do you recommend to be used or rather which one do you use yourself?RegardsSharatOn 11 Mar 2009, at 21:49, Narasimha PVR Rao wrote:Namaste,I am glad you guys have figured out a way to make the computer give the correct time to JHora. However, if you try JHora 7.33 alpha, it will work irrespective of all those settings.I just downloaded it and installed it. Dear Sharat:

Yes a Mac version of JHora would be wonderful! I did not know JHora could even

be installed on the Mac. I had not heard of " parallel software, " but because it

is a PC world, and I prefer Macs, I decided to get the partitioned MacIntel

laptop - the best of both worlds, and I do recommend it. I just can't navigate

as easily on a PC as I can on a Mac.

I did find the data file in the C drive under Jyotisha, but I do have two

separate folders for JH. It may be the reason that the update does not work;

perhaps it wants to go to the wrong folder since there is a JHora folder in the

Jyotisha folder and also now the new 7.32 has a separate folder.

Sometime I will try to figure it out.

Best,

Janna

Mostly you have JHora running when you tried to upgrade.

Other possibility is that file jHora.exe can not be deleted (either it is

readonly now, or you installed as a different user.

My recommendation would be close jhora before running the upgrade.

I could simulate this error by running the upgade while jhora is running:

**********

d:\jHora\bin\jhora.exe

An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file:

DeleteFile failed; code 5.

Access denied.

Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or Abort

to cancel installation

Abort Retry Ignore

**************

Vijay

Moreover, the clock on your computer must be showing the current time correctly

in eastern daylight saving time. JHora simply takes the time from your

computer. There is nothing for me to fix here. Best regards,

Thank you, Vijay. I turned off the computer and then turned it back on and

unzipped the upgrade. Now JHora opens and shows the version is 7.33. And the

time matches the computer time.

Moreover, the clock on your computer must be showing the current time correctly

in eastern daylight saving time. JHora simply takes the time from your

computer. There is nothing for me to fix here. Best regards,

Namaste,

I am glad you guys have figured out a way to make the computer give the correct time to JHora.

However, if you try JHora 7.33 alpha, it will work irrespective of all those settings.

I just downloaded it and installed it. It went fine. I wonder if there was a temporary problem on the server.

Thanks,

Narasimha

Thank you for sharing this simple technique.

Namaste Narasimha,

You say that the time used by JHora is accurate, like 4:00 west.

Some astrologers use exact timezone according to Amerccan Atlas od longitudes

and latitudes. For example, for New York would not have same, let say 4 west as

Miami (Florida), but exactly 3:56, and Miami would be 4:20.

It is a big difference to take 4 west or 4:20 west, for devisional charts.

Do you practice like that too ?

respectfuly, Mara

Namaste,

You should do it only if birthtime was actually measured using a clock

calibrated with local mean time. Now-a-days nobody does it. Everybody sets their

clock to the standard timezone time.

If you have an old chart where time was measured using a clock set to local mean

time, please check the " Use LMT " checkbox under timezone in the birthdata entry

dialog.

Thanks,

Narasimha
