Dear Narasimha,

 

I have an atlas that is available on the internet on www.britlaunch.com

using a CGI program. It has longitudes and latitudes for 2.4 million places,

even obscure ones, produced from freely available geographic info. I also

have another file of current time zone information. This is implemented

using a DB2 UDB database. Is there anyway I can give you this information in

a form that can be used by you? DB2 downloads in text form are possible.

Historical timezone data is something I do not have and which Astrodienst

does well.

 

With respect to the ephemerisis, if you think that the astronomical

algorithms provided by Jeff Sax are not accurate enough to start with, you

can set a price and ask for volunteers to pay the advance price. Even with a

small number of purchases, that should be enough to fund it.

 

About sales, could we deliver via the internet download mechanism or do CDs

have to be sent out? Or could we ask someone like Mr Chadha who already has

a reliable sales effort in place whether he could handle that end of it on a

commission basis?

 

If there is any coding help I can do, please let me know. I started coding

the yogas from BV Raman's book. If any of those are of use to you, please

let me know. I can, if you like, put them into a usable format for JH, and

you can check that they are OK, and I will fix any bugs.

 

If you need support for JH, I will be a volunteer by email.

Very many thanks for this wonderful gift!.. I love it.

I wish to be volunteer for any help you would need.

Namaste S.Prabhakaran,

Perhaps if you are the focal point for this and can do the Web as a down load site

then this can move ahead...

IF you can give an estimate to Narasimha on how much this will cost, maybe we of the group

can coordinate the first round of funding via payments to Narasimha and can start the work.

 

It is up to him ( obviously) if CD is the way to go.... if the Web is used as a down load,

the SW can be controlled by password protection, and the SW can be updated quickly.

What needs to be resolved is the atlas, maybe Nimmi Ragavan's idea of using www.britlaunch.com

is good, but again, Narasimha will need to approve this.

 

Let me know where I Can help... I am not a programmer , but will be the first, along with

many other is the group to raise the capital to move forward.

Thanks a lot for coming out with that wonderful gift for the students of

SJVC. I am happy that we need not wait too long for the commercial version

to be realised now. I also want to make some donation. Can you please

suggest some ways, how, many of us from India can donate for the cause!!!

 

I feel Nimmi has given a very valid suggestion of making some responsible

person like Shiv Chadha for handling the sales of the software. Morever the

licensing cost of the ephemeris can be shared by volunteers among us.

 

I wish you all the best. May lord Jagannatha help you out in all your

difficulties and make your effort a grand success. In case you think I can

be of some help for SJVC in this project, please contact me, I will do my

level best.

Yes, lets move foward.

We still need costs...and a firm count on the number of poeple that will purchase,

so maybe a simple plan of the following:

 

 

 

1. Web site readiness for JHL 4+ down loading - takes X days and Y $$$ to move forward. Ready for Down loads by _______,______, 2001

 

2. Tech support - all done by email at Support @SJVC.com

To get ready we need to undetstand the product inside and out, but more imporatnly a simple Guideline book ( posted) will be of value. [ Dear S.Prabhakaran's assistance here will be good]

 

3. All support requests are technical in nature [ vs. what does Narayana dasa mean and how do I applyt it]

and will be recorded at SJVC support for future reference.

 

4. Release contol - ea. relese will be controled by a revision number

4a. Ea. release will require a password to unvzip and use th file....

4b. Ea. release , we will ask for registration to insure we know who has what

What do you think of this approach? we can then submit it to Narasimha and he can manage it with littletime expended, and see progress at the same time.

Though I am talking to ACS, I want to see if I can use your stuff. ACS

charges $300 per year plus 10% royalties on sales.

 

You said you would send me the data in December. Isn't there a way to send

it earlier?

 

Do you have access to britlaunch.com's website server? Obviously, that

server must have the same data that your home computer has.
