Dear Sunil Nairji,

You are correct in saying the rashis are very old.Even 2000 years is a very long time back.As we do not find the rashis in the vedanga jyotish period,it is later than vedanga jyotish.Please understand that I am not in favour gettting rid of rashis.We do not need to remove the rashis for calender reform.The rashis have become part of our culture even at least for 2000 years. So much literature is there with the rashis that we cannot avoid them.thus it is necessary to keep them at all cost.But they should be preserved with the correctness of the representation they are supposed to fulfill.This is what we have to analyse carefully.We must see if the limit of their representation has crossed or not.If the limit has crossed, we have to restore the original meaning.this restoring the original meaning is all about calender reform, please understand.This is also what Shri Krishna means when he says about restoring dharma from age to age,in

the Gita as "Yeda yedahi dharmasya glanir bhavati bharata,...".This is also a hint that we have to reform our calender to restore dharma epoch after epoch.Thank you,
