Guest guest
Dear Mr.Kishore, The Isa mentioned in Bhavishya Purana is most probably Sastha believed to be the son of Lord VISHNU and Lord Siva by the Saivites. But, the name of Saasta (i.e.) also called Iyappa is not mentioned in any part of Vedas hence the Vaidikaas dont accept him as God but only a Human King. The belief and worship of Saasta is also part of Hinduism. The word Hinduism means Indianism and Hindu means Indian which later on after several changes now meant to refer the combined form of All religions which were born from India. There are six Religions which accept the authority of Vedas officially which are ancient namely, Vaishnavism, Saivism, Saakthaaism, Gaanapathyam, Kaumaaram and Sauryam.Vaishnavism is the worship of LORD VISHNU as the Supreme Brahman, Saakthaism is the worship of Paraasakthi as the Supreme Brahman, Saivism is the worship of LORD SIVA as the Supreme Brahman, Ganapathyam is the worship of Ganapathy as the Supreme Brahman, Kaumaaram is the wolrship of Lord SKANDA as the Supreme Brahman. and SAURYAM is the worship of LORD SURYA (i.e.) SUNGOD as the Supreme Brahman. Bhaaratavarsha of which India is a part is the birthplace of all these religions and were widely prevelant in the ancient world.Shintoism of Japan is the offshoot of Sauryam.Similarly Mithraism is the offshoot of Sauryam. later on Christianity evolved from Mithraism from Rome.Later on When Constantine was the Emperor of Bysantine Empire he proclaimed Christianity as his State Religion which was for the first time Christianity was made the State religion in history which later spread worldover to this day. Yours sincerly, B.C.VENKATAKRISHNAN. website: www.vedascience.com kishore patnaik <kishorepatnaik09Monday, March 2, 2009 6:35:21 PM Mithraism Mithraism is a very old religion from the area of Kashmir and Iran, possibly of 6th/5th century at the earliest. As the name suggests, it concerns itself with the worship of Sun god. Isa, perhaps the only prophet of the religion, declares in Bhavishya purana about himself. While Isa does not talk of Mithraism there, he mentions that he worships sun, which connects him to Mithraism. Also, he declares that he was born of virgin and was a saviour, which are again important features in Mithraism. Most of the characteristics of Mithraism were readily accepted by Christianity. Mithraism was highly popular for several centuries in Europe. By 2nd century bce, it was well entrenched there. It is said that if Christianity did not spread itself so much in the world, Mithraism would have in its place. However exaggerated this statement might be, it is not without its element of truth. While it is said that there was no trace of Mithraism inSouth Asia , its supposed place of origin, there are several sun temples which either dilapidated or been appropiated by other religions later. For eg., Srinagar district boasts of the temple of Sankaracharya, which was earlier called Takht e Suleiman. It was originally a temple meant for sun worship. Kashmir also houses the tomb of Isa. Bhavishya purana says that Isa has crossed Indus to preach the foreigners, who have persecuted him. Rauza Tus Safa written by Mir Mohammed Khwand , in support of this, states that Isa has gone to Nisibis where he was initially persecuted, only to be accepted later. He established several sun temples there. Isa declares himself to be a saviour in bhavishya purana. Mithraism also stresses this aspect. There are coins attributed to him, circulated from Kashmir and Taxila(Gandhara or Afganistan) to Kabul, these being the traditional important centres on old silk road. " Soter Megas" coins are the most important of these collections, attributed to Vima Taktoo. Thanks to this, it is easier now to place Vima Taktoo in 5th or 6th c. bce rather in post Christian era. Kanishka who had succeeded Vima Taktoo, organized the 4th Buddhist council , attended by Isa. Thus, the term Maitreya (Bodhisatva) was applied to Isa, since Maitreya means son of Mithra (Sun God) That Kanishka belonged to 5th or 6th c, bce, was further supported by the fact that he had strengthened Gandhara and Alexander mentions this fact in his last official gazatte, that he could not proceed further because Gandhara is too powerful to be attacked. I would be posting seperately on this, by looking at the independent evidences that show that Kanishka belonged to pre christian era.
