They've started calling Indians 'slumdogs', just like'coolie' was a 'slang' in Britain. Now in the US I feel slumdog is a'gaali' (slang) for Indians. Mumbai has given me everything,"Srivastava told IANS."To see the city being shown as a place of dirt, filth and crime onlyis very humiliating. Even I can make a film on child prostitution andpaedophilia. But it won't get Oscars because I am not a 'gora'(white)," added the composer.Based on Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup's novel "Q & A", "SlumdogMillionaire" is about an impoverished teaboy who wins a quiz show.Directed by British director Danny Boyle, the story is set in theslums of Mumbai. While Anil Kapoor, Freida Pinto and NRI Dev Patelplayed main leads, A.R. Rahman composed the music for the movie. Ithas got 10 Oscar nominations, out of which three are for Rahman.The film was lauded in the West, but it has been criticised by some inIndia for showing its ugly side by concentrating on grinding poverty."What right does the director have to show Mumbai as a slum? Now weare considered a slum city in all parts of the world. It's a disgusting movie. Being an Indian it was doublyhumiliating to be watching the film with Americans. Even if StevenSpielberg asked me to compose music for a film that makes fun ofIndia, I won't do it," he said.Being a diehard Amitabh Bachchan fan, Srivastava is appalled by theway the Big B is shown in the film."I puked when I saw that kid smeared in shit asking for Bachchansaab's autograph. The reason I wanted to see the movie was because I am a mumbaikar. It was painful to watch my favorite city and country in that condition. Other side of the coin, isn't it the truth? This matters a lot to us because it is directed by an Englishman. If one ladys honour gets violated in real Life, one does not repeat the story on scene. Those who do it vidily, are only trying to entice the front benchers. I saw the movie much before it was released . There is very less truth in it, as far as the Hindus are concerned. They have showed Lord Vishnus make up on a young boy, terrorising a Muslim. They have shown Muslims being terrorised in Bombay, whereas the fact is quite the opposite. They have shown oppression on them, which is quite the opposite of reality. They have shown a Hindu Goonda taking our the eyes of a small kid and making him a beggar. And the Leader of this Gang of Goondas, is a man who sings and likes Bhajans of Lord Krishna. And many other such things. This is not the truth madam. read the newspapers daily morning, and you will find that most of the criiminals, rapists, murderers and the scum of society are not those who sing Bhajans but.... Madam my blood boiled on the night I saw this movie, but my hands were tied, or else I would have cleaned the whole of India, overnight with the scum that has been brought upon us by our ancestors who partitioned India , but did not know how to make proper partitions. Many Indian students who go to the west often face questions do u have electricty in ur conutry,,,. such a backward image of India thrives and our Govts have done little to showcase India its progress, culture as China does. the formers work has a good impact on history than the latters. though the work of Missionaries is a very laudable one they work in areas we dont a Bishop of Delhi {Simon if I remember] who feeds, educates, and sheltes street children is a v great figure in comparison he took care of the living than the dying. and made a difference to their lives/society. Even Mother teressas Nobel prize is one such example.of bias on Indian image. as at that historic moment to judge it US President Jimmy carter and President Anwar sadat, Nasar were tipped for it and till today it the only peace deal that was signed and lasts in bloody trouble prone W ASia region. compared to teressas work on dying people esp Bangla refugees Terrasa projection of poverty, sickness drew in lots of foreign money used for conversions the Wikipedia page on her will say more on both sides of her. now back to Slumdog it is shamfful our govt wants to take credit for this also without bating a eyelid on this in this very film the tall buildings seen were not made from thin air some prosperity was there ins't it not a single incident of goodness of our growth is shown WORSE ITS main vote catcher image of Mahatma Gandhi is shown in such contemptous slight the hero when asked of the image on rs 1000/- says he dosnt know when prompted says he heard this name, but remembers foreign currencies, its characters not one scene in the 15 questions speak decently of Indian growth, our ethos a shame on the people who claim it as a achievement it is not as though there is no bad in India but we want to see some good at least in this story other than him winning it ofcurse even a middle class family man who is contented with his incom,, family his faith or sports or whatever. there r many poor people who lead a life if dignity berefit of the gory picture there.
