Guest guest
Dear All, Skanda is considered as the patron god of astrology by many.(By different schools of astrology different gods are considered as the patron god of astrology. Patron god of astrology as per variosu schools are - Skanda as per Arsha school, Brahma as per Jain and Yavana schools, Siva as per Tantric tradition, Brahma as per Vedic culture (patron god of Tropical astrology). There are also traditions/schools that consider Surya, Vishnu or Sakti (Mother godess) as the patron god of astrology. The kerala tradition is the continuation of Arsha tradition and considers Skanda as the patron god of astrology. Skanda Hora, the first authentic text of Ancient indian astrology was supposed to be taught by Skanda to Brahma. In the ancient past onwards the worship of Skanda was popular thoughout india, Skanda temples are found throughout India. * Kartikeya was the war god of many cults. * Skanda was the war god of Abhira tribes. * Muruka was the traditional god of Dravidian people of South India, especially Tamilnadu. How and why the concept of the various gods Skanda, Muruka and Kartikeya got mixed-up into one is another subject. But as the students of ancient indian astrology, I believe we all would be interested in knowing about the cult and culture of worshiping Skanda-Muruaka. Our group member Liana ji had forwarded the link to the following useful resource of articles to me. Those who are interested may visit: http://www.murugan.org/research/index.htm Love and regards,Sreenadh
