Guest guest
Revolution of earth and breath of Yogis -- Written by Sreenadh OG The history of the understanding of the co-relation goes back to the ancient Agni Purana. Ayute dve sahasraikam shat satani tathaiva cha Ahoratrena yogeendro japasamkhyam karoti saH (Agni purana 214-25) [The great yogis complete the recitation (of breath; Ham-SaH mantra – an inhale and exhale combination) of 21600 times within a day] The breath is termed `So-Ham' or `Ham-SaH' mantra. `So' is the sound of breathing-in, "Ham' is the sound of breathing-out. The `So-ham' is a complete breath. If one breaths 21600 times in a day, the average time taken for a single breath would be (24 x 60 x 60)/21600 = 4 sec. Even the common man's breath is similar to this. Then what is so special in it for Yogis? The difference is that for the Yogis, it is NOT simple breath; but instead they are `reciting'; reciting and making themselves aware of the ultimate truth every moment – 21600 times a day! What truth? So-Ham = That is me (SaH Aham) = That ultimate reality is me. The great sentences (Maha Vakyas) "Aham Brahmasmi" and "Tat Tvam Asi" mean the same – "I am the Ultimate ;That Ultimate reality is me; I am one with the divine; I am god". I am no different from god; The divinity is one and the same! This itself is the very difference of breathing of the common man and the Yogi! The Yogi is aware of this great truth each and every moment, he is remembering and reciting this truth with awareness each and every moment but the common man is not – he too is breathing, but what lacks is the "awareness of this great truth in every moment" – the Yogi is living here and now with awareness but the common man is not. This is the very difference! The common man breaths 21600 times in a day – but the yogi recites with awareness 21600 times as day! His life every moment is like a prayer! We can be Yogis, if we are aware of our breath `every moment'; we can be yogis if we are `aware' every moment; if our consciousness is `enlightened' or better if our inner sky is `enlightened' with consciousness. Man breaths 21600 times a day. But the day is caused by the revolution of earth. With in a time of 21600 breaths earth completes 360 degree revolution. That means (360 x 60)/21600 = 1 min. Earth revolves 1 min of an arc within a breath time (i.e. in 4 sec); in 4 sec earth revolves 1 min of an arc. This is exactly what Aryabhata says – Pranenaiti Kala BhooH (Aryabateeyam) [in a breath time earth revolves 1 min of an arc] What an excellent understanding of the bio-cosmic rhythm combination, even in that ancient past! Actually this understanding is not limited to this. The circumference of earth is 24901.55 miles (40075.16 kilometers). This distance is covered in a day – in 21600 breath time. Therefore, in one breath time, the earth covers 40075/21600 = 1.8553 KM/in 4 sec = 111.32 KM/min = 6679 KM/Hour. Thus it is evident that Aryabhata and the ancient author of Agni purana was well aware of the speed of revolution of earth as well! It is well evident that if the earth revolves with a speed of 1.85533 KM/4 sec; that means 1855 m/s, then they must have been aware that the atmosphere revolves along with the earth (if not in a wind of that speed nothing will be there in earth, as the ancient scholar Lalla puts it the birds that fly up cannot reach their nests when they fly down). Is it not wonderful?! Is it not wonderful that the ancient scholars such as Aryabhata and the author of Agni purana knew the great truths such as – · The bio-cosmic rhythmic correlation of human body and the universe · They knew that the average number of breaths of a human being is 21600 per day and also that the average time for a single breath is 4 sec. · They knew that earth revolves 1 min of an arc in 4 sec. · They knew that the speed of revolution of earth si 1855 m/s · They knew that the Atmosphere revolves along with the earth (and also that this is what saves us from ultimate destruction and sustains life on earth) · They know that it is the attractive force of earth that helps earth to keep the atmosphere to itself. But Alas! We fools think that they knew not much! We believe that all these info is the findings of some modern day scholars! The de-merit lies with such great ancient scholars or with us?! - 0 -
