As you rightly said Knowledge is for sharing and it is good that such resources are getting shared. ==> > I am however surprised that Mr. Bhattacharjya has not posted Mr. > Kaul's reply to this mail on this forum that he had not seen this > book till date and probably it is the one that Dixit has discussed in > his "Bharatiya Jyotisha Shastra". <== That is a new info. Could be - I don't know. ==> > According to Mr. Kaul, this book > can never be a part of the Atharva Veda since none of the three > editions of that Veda that Mr. Kaul has contains anything like "Atma > Jyotisha" or "Atharva Jyotisha" nor are any of the "mantras" of "Atma > Jyotisha" listed in the "Mantra-anukramanika" of the Atharva Veda. <== Kaul is exactly right in pointing out that this book called "Atharvana Jyotisha" is NOT part of currently available "Atharva Veda". But for sure, the 3 books - 1) Atharvana Jyotisha 2) Atharava Vedeeya Jyotisha & 3) Atharva Vendanga Jyotisha Belongs to the SAME TRADITION of astronomy/astrology that is mentioned in Vedas. This is a fact well evident to anyone who sincerely study these texts. But certainly as Kaul ji puts it, in its re-written state (considering linguistics as well) these texts must be of later origin than the Vedas themselves. So the point is - the knowledge and concepts contained within these texts seems to be in tune with the vedic approach to astronomy/astrology; But definitely these text are compiled to the current state only at a very later stage; and thus these texts are certainly of later origin. Actully as per this rule – the Rig/Yajur Vedanga Jyotisha texts on which Kaul bases most of his arguments are also texts of very very late origin (AD Origin!) even though tradition dates back to the Vedic period. Actually it is fun looking at the arguments of Kaul ji, since his own standing ground is like a marshy land. :=). Hope this make the point clear. A man who denies any results or usefulness behind festivals, but insists that festivals should be celebrated – truly funny. :=) Regards, Sreenadh , "jyotishi2001" <jyotishi2001 wrote:>> Mr. Sreenadhji,> I had forwarded the book "Atma Jyotisha" to Thiru Kaul off-line.
