Guest guest
Friends, A post of mine (quoted below) to another list , in this context, a year back , may be worth reading Best M Nair Friends, Thesedays, there are Books in Vedic Astrology(VA), software in Vedic Astrology , internet discussion forums in VA and lot of Vedic Astrologers around to solve anything under the sky .We all use the term "Vedic Astrology", frequently , though it is a misnomer and in reality is a substitute for "Vedantha Jyothish " How many of us know , the origin of the word "Vedic Astrology "? Here are some facts from History. In US, the West Coast History of Vedic system ,started much before the formation of American Council for Vedic Astrology (ACVA) .It began in the early 80's with the introduction of Vedic into Phylis Kneip's classes at the Siderial school of Astrology in Los Angels by Steven Stuckey , Nalini-Kantha/Tom-Hopke (All disciples of Swami Bhakthi Vedantha from 70's) . Chakrapani Ullal, a Keralite Astrologer , , settled in US, began to take classes from 1984..Those times , the current Vedic Astrology was known as "Hindu Astrology".It was Mr Chakrapani Ullal, who coined the word "Vedic Astrology"He had some compelling reasons -To wipe off the communal and sectarian tag of "Hindu ". Indians in general and Hindu's in particular , are considered by many Westerner's to be snake-charmers , worshipper's of cow and those who make a first marriage to a tree (peepal). So Chakrapani thought , it will be better to get rid of the word "Hindu" --- By adding "Vedic" Chakrapani thought , he could prove to Westerners that Indian Astrology is ancient, say , something of 5000 year old Best Pranav
