Guest guest
Dear Chandu2chill ji, 'That lady (Gautami), not just " wise Woman " she's called " NOBLE WOMAN " in my humble opinion " Thanks for pointing out this. Since I have not read Mahabharatha the piece I wrote, I copied word to word ...from Sri K. N. Rao's book .... " Astrology Destiny and the Wheel of Time " . Anyway according to my perceptives noblility can be achieved not by birth but by one's actions. Such noble actions would be guided by wisdom...not the wisdom gained by passing college exams but wisdom achieved by seeing the world as it is. Hence I don't see much difference between 'wise woman' and 'noble woman'. A truly noble woman will be worldy-wise and a truly wise woman will be absolutely noble. blessings Renu , " Chandu2chill " <nanna_id2006 wrote: > > > Dear Renu Ji, > > If i may add my two cents.. > > That lady (Gautami), not just " wise Woman " she's called " NOBLE WOMAN " > in my humble opinion > > Regards > > Chandu2Chill > > > //The argument went on and the wise woman said that the death of her > son had not caused her agony as the boy had met his destiny. Guest guest
Dear Bhagavathi ji, Thanks for pointing out the difference between a Rishi and a Saint. Yes, if Rishis are human beings who have not attained the ultimate stage of enlightenment...I agree...they are bound to get angry. According to Buddhism, one cannot attain 'arhathood' if one is susceptible to anger. blessings, Renu --- In , " bhagavathi_hariharan " <bhagavathi_hariharan wrote: > > Dear Sunilji, > > The Rishi kumara's name was " sravana " or Sravana kumara. Date: Saturday, 28 June, 2008, 10:15 PM Dear Sunilji, The Rishi kumara's name was "sravana" or Sravana kumara. Stavana has many meanings, one meaning is also the art to be heard, this was the speciality of King Dasharth, he could aim his shot on the basis of sound. Renuji- Rishis are supposed to be holy people, but they are also human beings. Anger is the basic trait of a human. Throughout myth, Sage Druvasa has been projected as an angry rishi only. Sage Vishwamitra did not leave his traits of a king even after he became a Brahmarishi. The human who was never angry was a saint rather than a rishi. So there is a clear distinction between a Rishi and a Saint. The Rishis tried to carry the teachings of God, while the saint practised the teachings of God. Guest guest
Dear Bhagavathiji: I have always thought Saint is the English translation for Rishi. How can you then divide them into Siants and Rishis from Jamadagni to Parasurama to Viswamitra to Durvasa to the great Dronacharya and ofcourse Gautum Muni? Who deserves the name Saint and who deos not? I really appreciate if you can explain. Guest guest
Dear Hariharan, Bhagtam Mahpuran was authored by Rishi Vayasa , this is a purana which establishes  the path of BHAKTI on the highest pedestal. This Purana gives the name of Devotees and place Prahaladji on highest pedestal. Th names given by this purana in decreasing order of merit is as under: 1.Prahalad 2. Devrishi Narad 3.Vayasa 4, Parasara 5. Dhuruv In the above list , three devotees are Rishis. A rishi can be a saint like Narda. Jayaji, If you see message # 11064 by kerishnamurthiji, he has explained even better. Rihsi is towardd Gyana marga, Saint is towards bhakti marga. The english language usually uses saint for rishi also, there is a whole new addition of words in english like Dekho, sage, guru, avtar, pundit, the meaning of sage is given as a learned man. Most of the times, it is difficult to translate into english. Thjere is no single word for " punya " in english while there is a single word for " papa " which is sin, so that reveals the greatness of sanskrit itself. In my humble opinion, a rishi need not be a saint, a saint need not be a rishi. in the example which Renuji cited about the woman Gautami, she had saintly qualities. In Bhaktimarga, there were so many saints who were not learned at all. Mirabai was a saint, Buddha himself was a saint, it was not easy to giveup everything and go away. Dronacharya was no doubt highly learned brahmin sage but he failed in everything when he went to the battlefield, it was adharma from his part as a Brahmin, for which he paid with his head. This topic is never ending. I think we should realize this from within and get enlightened about the concept of a rishi and saint Rgds, bhagavathi ancient_indian_ astrology, " revati_n27 " <revati_n27@ ...> wrote: > > Dear Bhagavathiji: > > I have always thought Saint is the English translation for Rishi. > How can you then divide them into Siants and Rishis from Jamadagni > to Parasurama to Viswamitra to Durvasa to the great Dronacharya and > ofcourse Gautum Muni?
Guest guest
What is your take on this dear bhagavathiji? Astrologers have to do what to get the best output? Where lies the fault? Please summarize your observations on the questions you have posted, than countering someone else's post. Thanks for interesting information. Although I disagree the facts that some saints were accepted in their life time itself. Only after death, things are getting accepted. Like St Filomina of Pala. Darga's of Sufi saints. I apologize if this reference hurts any sentiments. Well, sorry for digress. So the point is - there is no curse, but learning away from earth centric approach on astrology, through divine means- provided by Sadhus? (nice term than saints and rishis). Yesterday I had a nice dream, when I saw a mountain man clad with goat skin, making some marks on the cave wall based on certain events - didn't recognize the letters. He was circling and crossing repeatedly day after day going back and forth. May be this is the way, the predictions happened based on facts? In Silence! Regards Ramesh bhagavathi_hariharan <bhagavathi_hariharan Monday, 30 June, 2008 10:03:54 AM Re: Saraswati's Curse on Astrologers!!??And rishis ??? Guest guest
Dear Bhagavathiji: Thanks for the response. Yes, I understood the defenitions given by Krishnaji and yourself and only needed the clarification as to who should we call Rishi and who should we call Saint. I was asking you to quote from Puranas. Buddha can be included at the highest possible level and SriRamakrishna too. Bhaktimarga, probabaly most will come under sianthood. But my diffciculty was to find saints from Ramayana, Mahabharata or any purana, epic, etc. It is very interesting that Punya has no translation, I never noticed that at all. What is your opinion about Satyam? Sorry for the distraction. Guest guest
Dear Jaya ji, Though Jnana Marga and Bhakti Marga are two different paths, in our mythology we come across some great souls who have conquered both the paths. Narada Maharshi is one such example. Sage Vasishta and Vishwamitra are all Jnana Yogis. It is really long ago that I read Ramayana and Mahabharata (translations of course), hence I can not readily recollect many names :-( The other important path is the path of Karma Yoga. King Janaka is revered as one of the great Karma Yogis. Guest guest
Dear Rameshji, //What is your take on this dear bhagavathiji? Astrologers have to do what to get the best output? Where lies the fault?// How will you define the " best output " . Do you mean prediction is the output? then it comes from within, it cannot be taught.I do not see any fault in any astrologer. He has a limitation too. It is in all professions. a gold medalist doctor is often failure in practise. Unfortunately, astrology is not deserving the recognition of a profession. It is the " free advise seekers " who go to 1000 astrologers for a reading that create fault in the system. This reminds me of a story I heard when I wasa child, i no longer remember the name of the king or the other characters. A king in ancient India had two sons, he called the astrologer and showed their charts, the astrologer said the younger one would become the king and not the elder. The knig was sad as it was against the tradition. The younger boy loved his father very much, he ran way to the forest so that the elder would only become the king. In the forest, he took to meditation, became a saint, was highly revered by the common people. The elder son was crowned the king. the astrologer was called and said " man your predictions are wrong " . the astrologer said, no I was right, the younger son is now king of kings. He is respected and has a mass following. now what do you understand from this //Please summarize your observations on the questions you have posted, than countering someone else's post.// I have not posted any questions, Usually i try to answer my questions myself or ask my Guru directly //Although I disagree the facts that some saints were accepted in their life time itself. Only after death, things are getting accepted. Like St Filomina of Pala. Darga's of Sufi saints. I apologize if this reference hurts any sentiments// No problems. Saints were never after recognition. They worked on their free will, so they never cared for fame. Regards, bhagavathi

Guest guest
dear friends sage vyasa mentioned clearly that " paropakaram " is punyam and " parapeedanam " is papam. a verse says " ashtadasha puraneshu, vyasasya vachana dwayam, paropakaraya punyaya papapa parapeedanam. simply put, doing good to others is punyam and doing bad to others is papam. any person who mentions a curse on astrologers by parvati or saraswati or any other god or goddess must give its reference and mention the source of such surmise, before we discuss on it. some members in this thread wondered how sages can give curses. gods, sages and gurus have the power to give curses or boons. gods giving various astras as boons to other gods, sages and demons is known to all. similarly sages too give boons to kings and others who rever them and the sages also give curses to those who disrespect them. sage bhrigu giving curses to brahma, vishnu and shiva is known to all. sage gautama cursing his wife ahalya (daughter of brahma) to become a stone is known to all. besides astrology, there are so many other pull and push factors that can drive the future of a native like the blessings and curses of gods, sages and gurus. vedic astrology finds its roots in hindu mythology and cannot be alienated from hindu mythology. astronomy is different to astrology and the non existing rahu and ketu owning stars and having longer dasa periods than visible luminaries does not hold water according to astronomy. by exercising freewill, all humans have the potential to become a god, a sage or a demon. karma theory of " reap as you sow " works simultaneously by giving the good or bad results to the good or bad karmas done in this birth. lastly, all paths lead to the same truth. be it karma marga, jnana marga, prema marga or bhakti marga. karma marga is kept above par because not every human has the will to serve others like shivananda or jesus did. jnana marga is for the intellectuals who light the darkminds and illuminat the world and let them know march on the path of knoweldge to realise the truth. prema marga again is a selfless way of loving all alike. those who do not fit in these three, take recourse in the bhakti marga, for they need not serve others like karmamarga, share knowledge and light others like jnanamarga, love others like premamarga and what all they need to do is simply devote to one god sincerely and do nothing else as in the adage " anyadha saranam naasti, tvameva saranam mama " . casting of maya, spell, charm, evil eye or evil affliction is also mentioned in various ancient scritpures. when sage gautama went at midnight thinking that it was morning, it was due to the maya cast by indra. even a great pativrata and rishipatni ahalya could not realise due to the maya and slept with indra. similarly gods too cast several mayas on demons. mahabharatam, aranya parvam narrates how the eight types of afflictions can possess the natives in the verse " devastadha satruganascha tesham, gandharva yaksha pitaro bhujanga: rakshamsiyaschapi pisachajati: yeshoshtako devagano grahakhya " members willing, we can discuss more on these with references and scriptural mentions than merely expressing ones own views. one shall have an open mind to know and accept all theories. with best wishes and blessings pandit arjun , " renunw " <renunw wrote: > > Dear Bhagavathi ji, > > You made the difference between saints and rishis very clear. > Thanks... > > " " There is no single word for " punya " in english while there is a > single word for " papa " ... Guest guest
Namaste Panditji, There is a great scientific logic behind that Sage Gautama cursing his wife Ahalya. In brief any pre-pondering biased mind, when sees a small distorted evidence, he reaches to a conclusion based on his pre-meditated mind, resulting in a drastic "outburst".... in this case, Sage Gautama realised this immediately and went into a repentance mode. So this curses, need not be seen on the simple english, but need to be delve into the meta-physics of the event. With regards, Sreeram_Srinivas , "panditarjun2004" <panditarjun2004 wrote:>> dear friends> > some members in this thread wondered how sages can give curses. > gods, sages and gurus have the power to give curses or boons. gods > giving various astras as boons to other gods, sages and demons is > known to all. similarly sages too give boons to kings and others who > rever them and the sages also give curses to those who disrespect > them. sage bhrigu giving curses to brahma, vishnu and shiva is known > to all. sage gautama cursing his wife ahalya (daughter of brahma) to > become a stone is known to all.> > > with best wishes and blessings> pandit arjun> >
